Should i put the larger diameter side pointing towards the bottom or outside as poiting the fitting ?

These do not work in normal 1/4-inch hvac gauge hoses. When I put them in mine they fell right out. Not sure what you are using them in. But I would try big side down. I tried it both ways in my hoses and it would not work either way. I just bought the yellow jacket ones since they actually work.
