Great concept, could have been much more diverse

I read this to my almost 4 year old last night because she's starting to notice differences in body shape and size. The book is well made and nicely illustrated. One line in the book reads, 'Her body can choose kale or cake --yummy, yummy! Food is her fuel and feels good in her tummy.' The corresponding illustration shows the gal in front of a huge display of desserts and sugary decadence, all while wearing a shirt that reads 'Kale.' I wish better choices were included here. Nearly every parent understands the battle of getting our children to make healthy choices even 50% of the time. I don't need my toddler equating kale to cake. Cake is certainly not what I would call 'fuel' either. The book shows the main character wearing outfits that expose her belly often; where her shirts look too small. I don't want me daughter to expose her belly so casually in everyday outfits no matter what size she is.I think I expected this book to be a little more diverse, to incorporate all sorts of body acceptance. There is a boy shown with a prosthetic leg and a girl in a hijab, but no other differences stood out in the drawings. I think illustrating even more people of ALL different sizes, shapes, abilities, and backgrounds would have been a tremendous compliment to this book.Overall, we liked the book and messaging and will keep it in our collection.

A much needed book for young girls and more

When I read this sweet, well-thought out book, I first thought how perfect it will be for girls like my little granddaughter as she grows up. But, really it makes a great render for over critical grandmothers, parents, or anyone in the lives of a child. It’s also great for boys, as we often forget they suffer from body image issues as much as others. What a great book for all! I bought my Kindle copy and I will also have a hard copy at Grammy's house!

    For all girls!

As a mom of 2 girls, it’s super important to me to instill a positive body image as much as I can. This book is uplifting and something EVERY little girl should read and memorize. The illustrations are beautiful too!
