What happens when evil wins? That's the question Superman, Batman, the Justice League and every being in the DCU have to face when Darkseid and his otherworldly legion of narcissistic followers actually win the war between light and dark. Featuring the deaths and resurrections of major DC characters, Final Crisis is more than your average multi-part event-it's a deconstruction of Super Hero comics and a challenging, thought-provoking take on the modern, four-color icons. This new edition includes story pages from Batman #682-683 in addition to Final Crisis #1-7, Superman Beyond #1-2 and Submit #1. Review: APPRECIATE THE ARTISTIC IDEAS AND AMBITION...AND STORY...IT'S COOL. - Some people call this the most confusing piece of work they've ever read, seen, witnessed, layed eyes upon, or experienced. But with a tiny bit of background research, and I mean a quick look at a synopsis of a few graphic novels. I got the grasp of it pretty fast. In fact, I don't think that much 'research' was necessary. The art is fantastic, both by J G Jones and Doug Manhke. The story involves a lot of characters but they all serve the story well. The best thing about this book is the fact that the story as a whole feels extremely large and epic in scale. And that there really is a sense of universal stakes. But while it does all that, there are great personal victories for certain characters. Grant Morrison is known for his wacky and unusual style of writing. But for me, at least, it works wonders. There is so much wackiness to like. And it never feels....Weird? One thing I advise is to pay deep attention at all times. You notice things here and there that will make you go "OHHH". It's really worth it. Amazing plot lines, yes.. PlotlineS. There are a few subplots to keep things interesting but none are wasted. It all comes together perfectly in the end. And Superman's own story, Superman Beyond, is incorporated very well into the story. I'm glad they decided to include it as it wasn't in the planned 7 issues. Review: A DREAM! - Arrived in perfect condition the next day (except for small dent to top of cover) and for such a steal!!!! Id been looking for this so long, was so expensive ordering through book stores (£80?!) ordered it here, came SO quick (though late in the day) next day, and in perfect nick. still reading it the artwork is perfect its such a thick book you get so much and all this for just £7 ?!?!?!!? and yes it includes all the relavant tie-in issues! not just the #1-7.

Hugely Ambitious
Right, well, before buying this book I spent a good while reading all of the other reviews on here and on other websites, simply because views on it are so massively opposed. Final Crisis really is the 'Marmite' of the DCU. I will say this to anyone tempted to buy this book: read Crisis On Infinite Earths, Infinite Crisis and 52 first, they will help (or you could just Wiki them) and they're all amazing anyway. Of the three Crisis stories, this one is certainly the most complex and interesting. The reason why I have not given Final Crisis five stars is because the writing often comes across as needlessly convoluted and, thus, a little arrogant, as if Morrison wanted to confuse the reader for the fun of it. This is especially true in the Superman Beyond issues half way through. Despite this confusion, the story is not all that complicated, but it does jump from one time and one location to another fairly frequently with little explanation and the major 'shock factor' turning points and revelations, the moments which are plot-changing and world-changing are incredibly dampened and downplayed; if this was a film, these moments would have no slow motion, no classical music and no gasps or loud and agonising screams. This is a very interesting approach to storytelling, making the entire book seem like one huge crisis, rather than several small ones, which is exactly what it is. On the art side, J.G. Jones certainly delivers. The man behind the beautiful artwork of Mark Millar's Wanted has shown, once again, how to create a dark and gritty world that's also full of hope. Simply beautiful. Final Crisis certainly has its good points and bad points but, overall, it's an exciting and excellent read and I recommend it to anyone who wants to read an ambitious story and experience an interesting (understatement) period in the DC Universe

Fantastic story with quality moody drawing!
Love the story and drawings. But really don't like the way the novel responds on my IPad Kindle software, jumps around too much even after I think I have mastered the controls. Needs to be more settings available to adapt the way the audience interacts with graphic novels if you could add that kind of functionality it would be great Amazon!

Could have been amazing, but...
OK, there are two major problems with this story for me. Firstly, while it starts brilliantly and has several interesting subplots going, and it's OK for heroes to be mauled, for violence, gore and general cosmic horror to be depicted, nobody is allowed to swear uncensored? It sounds trivial, but considering the dark nature of the story and the cryptic "$%*&!+@"s on near enough every page, it's very grating. I'd have been happier if either nobody swore at all, or if it was completely uncensored. Secondly, some plots come out of nowhere (I've only read the book twice, so I may be mistaken), while other plots are left dangling and barely resolved, even more irritating. While I know that this offscreen action is implied, it wouldn't be that hard to insert a 'oh, this is what happened' speech bubble in a couple of times to explain the story. Wonder Woman's Furies arc is particularly guilty of this. While the focus on less-loved characters is great, there's too much focus on characters like Superman (I'd much rather his sub-plot was shortened a bit to make sense of all the other stuff going on). We also don't see much resolution to Darkseid's Batman plan, other than the infamous gun scene. I mean, really, Batman, what on earth were you doing for most of the book? The end of the story could have been much better-told, as it was very confusing, and took me a couple of re-reads to understand just what they were supposed to have done. I still don't get how they were meant to have accomplished it, but I think I understand what was meant to have happened. Overall, a brilliant story, badly told. The art is OK, but Green Arrow is unfortunately drawn even more creepy than usual, something I didn't think possible. I also didn't recognise several characters, like Black Canary, due to the art. Other than that, seeing lesser-known characters was pretty fun, though I wish that we'd gotten to know them better. I'd recommend that you read it at least, but be warned that the quality is very inconsistent in terms of art, plot and general storytelling.

Best dc event I have read
Grant morrison writing the new gods as God's bringing down the very fabric of reality, a lot of heavy hitters are put to one side and really seems to highlight the struggle against darkseid. Art is amazing as well, and the designs match the concepts well.

A magnificent disappointment
The only reason this product is getting one star is because Amazon did an amazing job with the delivery. I would warn all those looking to buy this comic to stay away as it is a huge disappointment. The cover and the description alone would make any DC fan want to add it to their collection but I have to say it is not worth the money. The story itself is confusing, the character motivations are confusing, the writing is incoherent with too much time being spent on unimportant aspects of the story and not enough time being spent on characters we came to see. Every time a major character made an appearance I found myself asking "where have you been all this time?". While the extra issues were of course appreciated I found that they too, along with the side stories, were unimportant and a waste of time (excluding the second issue of Superman Beyond) All in all it was a poor reading experience and I can't wait to move on to something else because this story won't be hard to top!

Fever dream! A trippy trip! Gleefully insane!
Final Crisis is like a monumental fever dream. No, let me start again. Final Crisis was, to me, a trip; a trippy trip to trip-land. No, not good enough, let's try again. Final Crisis will be the craziest, most gleefully insane, epic comic book you've ever read. Mmmm... Well, let's go with all three! As Renee Monotoya voices it about 80% of the way in - "What? Enough of this %$@%$ sensory overload!". Amen. I'll be the first to admit I didn't get everything that happened in this first read-through. I will also say there is going to be a second, maybe a third, in time to come. Sit back and enjoy this crazy ride. Mr Morrison has a bountiful harvest of insane imagination to share, and is backed to the hilt by the art. As for the death at the end - no spoilers from me, but you'll know the one I mean - and its aftermath? Whew! Amazing, enigmatic read. Simply a must for DC fans - but I can see why it is so reviled and so loved, depending on your own POV. I think it helped me that I've been reading through all the crises (from 1986's Crisis on Infinite Earth to this one) recently. This will not be very accessible to casual readers - I know they say it was written as a standalone, but I didn't think it did stand alone.

Item was second hand - Not noted on website
Purchased a product that was new but was delivered a second hand version. It wasn't in the shrink wrapping and had a distinct dirty/Dusty smell, that meant it couldn't join my collection. Reminds me that Amazon has a lot of negatives as I can't replace and must wait for my refund.
