H. M. 10/30/2025 Review: Great Stuff, & Has Been All My Life - This is 8 oz of 3_&1 oil, which is FAR larger than the “normal “ 1 or 2 oz size I used before. Since I’ve been around for awhile, I have used 3&1 oil for over 70 years. Yep, I used it when I was virtually a small kid. Why? Because my dad used it. He called it sewing machine oil, and my mom used it for her old Singer sewing machine. Yeah, that was a long time back. Then, it was the only oil we used to prevent rust and lubricate everything in the house or garage.It was the same for all my friends. I used it on guns, toys, tools, the lawn mower, knives, sharpening stones, garage doors, the swamp cooler, metal windows, and just about anything that was metal and didn’t move correctly. I also coated metal to stop rust, especially on tools. A couple of drops on the tool, wipe it all over, then take a rag and wipe it off leaving a trace of oil on tool to prevent rust. I never have to use a lot because it works very well. Now our civilization has invented a bewildering array of lubricants that are pushing out the “old” stuff. Well, I’ve used nearly every one of those new lubricants and I can’t tell much difference from 3&1 oil. WD 40 sprays on and dries after a while which is convenient and really good for areas that are hard to reach. I used newer products to protect the top of my table saw, because oil comes off on the wood, and machinery that will collect dirt or debris on oiled areas, or areas where the oil will run off and make a mess somewhere else, or in special cases like cutting oil, but for overall use on everyday items I still use 3&1. Seriously, I've only ever had to use a drop or less at a time, so I never noticed any odor. Certainly it's not overpowering, if it has one, since it was thus far unnoticeable. I've never known our home to be without a can of this on the shelf, and it lasts for years. Along with a spray can of WD-40, they make a powerful combination of household lubrication. **Q: Would this work for an electric razor? The Braun specific oil is a lot of money for what appears to be a very small bottle.** A: This will certainly work. It works for my 9X18 makarov. The secret is to avois surplus oil so aftre use wipe off. You wont have a problem **Q: how would this be to use on a whetstone meant for oil? to sharpen a straight razor** A: In the past 3 in One was my preferred method for keeping my sharpening stone 'whet'. But for the past few years the 3 in One company must have changed their blend and for all the things I used to use it for... I no longer do. This stuff is 50+ cents an ounce, so I found a MUCH better product for only 14 cents per ounce AND you can buy it in different consistencies. I now use 100% Synthetic oil, any brand you like, Pennzoil, rotella, mobile, edge... A gallon is under $17 and the 5 quart is around $20. Use an old 3 in 1 can or find one of those old metal finger pump cans. Just break away 3 ounces from your 5 QT jug and put it in an old eye dropper and do your own tests. Squeaks, Rust, Slides, Hinges, Gears on your machines, Garden Saws, Shovels, Bicycles, Padlocks, etc. I hope someone can come back and advise about using Synthetic as Gun Oil. **Q: why is the price per bottle more when you buy a case?** A: Depends on the product.
