There was a time when rice was often smoked to control pest infestations via tiny insect eggs that can hatch during storage. This still happens with some US or imported rice that is stored in a warm location, unless you freeze it for 2 days when you get it home. Look for tiny beetles in the bottom of the container. Today I find the exotic aroma of sweet smoke enhances the dish. It is A VERY MILD subtle smoke aroma that will dissipate if not stored air tight. Some of these rice grains cook to 3/4 inch in length! The price will be high for a while until India has another good rice harvest. If global warming increases, this product may never be exported again. I never bother to rinse it and there is no reason to soak it first. It is illegal to sell GMO rice anywhere on Earth, that is only available for free to certain countries with malnutrition. Now that you know it is not legally sold anywhere, what do you think about the fear mongering lies of the organic industry's implications that there might be something bad about GMO crop science?? The organic industry spends $3 billion a year on propaganda, which is why it costs so much more for organic. Please boycott ALL foods with the 'Non-GMO' label.

I used to buy a smoked rice years ago until my supermarket stopped selling it.. I was very happy to find this. The grains are long and fluffy.. cooks perfectly every time :)

This was terrible. I like smoked pork, brisket, and salmon. But this was just God awful. I felt like I was eating the remnants of a 7 day old brush fire. Tossed it all in the trash. Never again.

This rice is good. A friend had suggested that I try it and I'm glad they did. It has a very smoky smell when you first open the bag, but the taste is very subtle (but good). It cooks up well and does not disappoint. I recommend this product.

Smoked rice is very flavorful and seems to go great with everything we have paired with this rice. Will continue to buy.

This was my first time having smoked rice. I am happy I bought the rice, as it’s a nice change from my norm. When you open the bag, the rice has an overly strong scent of smoke, but after I soak the rice or 30 minutes, and then cook it, the aroma of smoke is toned down to a very good level. This rice is a nice addition to change things up, when wanted. Very good with butter and salt. I gave it 4 instead of 5 stars because the grains are not as long as other varieties of basmati rice. However, the value for money is spot on. Just look at other smoked rice prices....

I typically purchase smoked rice that's product of Iran. I love the aroma but the grains are not as long as basmati rice. So I was very excited to find this rice and despite it being very expensive for the quantity, I purchased it. I did not find this rice to be particularly long grain. Nor was the smoked aroma as good as what I typically buy. Generally, there was nothing superior about it in any way in comparison to much cheaper brands. Will not purchase again.

I absolutely love this natural tasting smokiness. It adds so much to a curry dish or a wonderful stirfry. The price point is a little outrageous, I’m not gonna lie. I am looking for this product via other sources.
