## Description

Product Description The Fluke True-RMS Logging MultiMate with Trend Capture is the ultimate handheld tool for demanding applications that require high-precision. It quickly documents design performance and graphically displays what happened. Saving measurements allows you to name and recall measurements made in the field, and it has a real time clock for automatic time stamping of saved readings. From the Manufacturer The fluke 289 true-rms logging multimeter with trendcapture is the ultimate handheld tool for demanding applications that require high-precision. It quickly documents design performance and graphically displays what happened. Saving measurements allows you to name and recall measurements made in the field, and it has a real time clock for automatic time stamping of saved readings. Its' unique logging and graphing capabilities mean you no longer need to download logged readings to a PC to detect a trend, and it stores up to 15,000 recorded events. Weighing less than two pounds, the fluke 289 packs more accuracy and convenience into a handheld multimeter than ever before, putting more problem solving power in your hands. The low impedance voltage function prevents false readings due to ghost voltage. The true-rms ac voltage and current accurately measures complex signals or non-linear loads. The selectable ac filter (smoothing mode) helps display a steadier reading when the input signal is changing rapidly or is noisy. The adjustable recording and auto hold thresholds specify a percentage change in the readings that begins a new event. The 289 features a large 50,000 count, 1/4 VGA display with a white backlight, that allows multiple sets of measurement information to be simultaneously displayed at the same time. The multimeter runs about 100 hours, 200 hours in logging mode, on 6 aa alkaline batteries, or neda 15a IEC lr6. The 289 is multi-lingual interfaced and includes the following: a manual, 6 aa batteries, a set of tl71 silicone test leads, a probe holder, and two ac72 alligator clips. An optional accessory is the 80bk-a integrated DMM temperature probe with a measurement range up to 260-degrees Celsius. The fluke 289 true-rms logging multimeter is designed to meet csa, ul, tuv, ce agency approvals, and is cat iii 1000 v/cat iv 600 v safety rated. The fluke 289 true-rms logging multimeter with trendcapture is sold one item per package.

Review: Great meter. - Where to start... The negatives first... 1) I received the meter, and the packaging was absolutely terrible, it was just flopping around inside the box, not in a bag or anything of the sort. It looked like it was a return, that is how bad the packaging was. I looked at some unboxing video's and apparently this is how its shipped. 2) The way the molding is cut left these little yellow flakes all over the place and just seemed like terrible quality control overall. Also there is some dust and a scratch on the underside of the display casing. The scratch is pretty noticeable when there is light on it, but with the backlight on you cannot see it at all. Although it bothers me for a brand new $600 meter, its not enough for me to warrant a return. 3) There is a green dot on the bottom left of the clamshell, looks like a sharpie or something and I tried using 99% rubbing alcohol and the dot just laughed and mocked at me. I guess its staying there. 4) AC Current is not bang on, but is well within spec on the mA range. I forgot to test this when I was taking pictures and don't feel like updating. I have not tested the 10A or uA at all and do not have any standard's to really do so. The Good 1) Every other function on the meter is bang on accurate. It was calibrated in June of 2020 and it is spot on down to least significant digit except resistance obviously. 2) With the LoΩ and the Rel feature, I was able to measure with stability .18 ohm which is compared with the Keithley in 4 wire mode with filters. This took awhile as I left the meter on 30 min and shorted the leads till it was stable and used rel while stable, then measured the low resistance in which it eventually stabilized at the same value of the Keithley. Not the best setup but it was just a quick test. Other then that, resistance did quite well across the board and is well within spec. 3) The meter is very solid and feels good in the hand, it is quite big but with all the features it has I don't mind the size at all. Also the leads it comes with feel really nice and are better then what my other meters came with. 4) Continuity mode is very fast, faster then my Keithley. 5) AC+DC, DC+AC Etc. modes are absolutely awesome, I will use this meter for measurements of that sort because all my bench meters toggle a relay back and forth to do dual measurements. I didn't do much trend capturing, but it comes down to you can either set it to take a sample whenever you want, the lowest being every 1 second, or you can set a specific amount of time that you want it to record so it knows how often to take a sample, because it is limited to 15000 readings. Finally the open circuit voltage in Diode/Continuity is 5.4v at 1mA. It was able to light all standard LED's no problem. The Keithley in the pictures is in cal. and is spot on, the standard used for testing was the DMMCheck Plus r6. Overall it is a great meter, but either mine was in a rough batch or Fluke's QC absolutely sucks, because there were some issues and for the amount you pay for this meter it should be flawless. Edit: I uploaded the pictures in order, but desertcart kinda threw them all over the place. Voltage readings have both meters, and resistance they are done separately.
Review: Great meter, works flawless every time. - Love this meter, it's my workhorse, in use every day in the mechanic trade, never let's me down, except for when I pop an internal fuse ... my fault, not the meters. Do yourself a favor and get a few of each of the internal fuses (2 kinds) and you'll be set to tackle anything.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: What comes inside the box?**
A: It comes in a fluke soft case - AC220 Sure Grip Alligator clip setAC280 Sure Grip Hoot Clip SetAC285 Sure Grip Large Jaw Alligator Test Clip SetTP224 Sure Grip Silicon Test LeadsTP220 Sure Grip Test Probe SetFluke TPAK Meter Magnet Hanging KitFluke 80BK Temperature Probe

**Q: If i order the item can i use it one a switch on or i need to download something and is it made in u.s or china...Thanks**
A: No need to download anything. Made in China

**Q: How many digits to the right of the decimal place are there in the ohms mode? I need at least three.**
A: It depends on what range of resistance is being tested. 50ohms will show 3 decimal places (50.000) the next range @ 500 will show two (500.00) above 500 will have you in a the 5K ohm range which will show up to 5.0000 or 4 places. At 50K ohm the cycle is back to 3 places. This cycle repeats until the 5M ohm range. The next range is to 30M ohm @ 3 places after the decimal. Everything tested has fewer. 30-50M ohm shows two places. 50-500 shows one. Remember however that accuracy is more important than displayed value. This meters quoted specs are quite accurate. However at the high end of resistance measurement this accuracy falls off significantly.

**Q: If I need to do data logging over a 3 day period can the screen be turned off for longer battery life?**
A: Yes - when you are logging, the screen will turn off after the Auto Off period is reached.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great meter, works flawless every time.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great meter, however the kit is a better value
*by V***A on April 7, 2010*

I bought this thinking it came with the temperature probe, however it doesn't nor did the lead kit that I purchased. So I returned it and bought the kit version instead, that includes the case, additional leads, temperature probe and software for creating reports. Seemed like a better value. As far as the multimeter goes, it is solidly built and performs completely up to expectations. The screen is clear and large making it easy to take readings and view multiple pieces of information simultaneously. I am looking forward to putting it to use over the years.
