Similar hoods were about twice the price from our local appliance store. This is a rugged unit, and is very powerful. I was worried that it would impede my view but the curved glass opens everything up and is not at all obstructive. It's noisy at full power but not annoying. The LED light make a nice night light for the kitchen. I had 2 carpenters install it. Not sure it's a DIY project unless you're strong and skilled and patient.
