The James Taylor Quartet's final album for Acid Jazz, first issued in the summer of 1996, was a return to their roots with straight-ahead Hammond instrumentals. It is the sound of the touring Quartet, which was a six-piece, plus a percussionist, doing what they did best: playing together. The music stretches from Lonnie Liston Smith-style jazz funk, through out-and-out funk, tinged in places with touches of Keith Emerson. Includes the original 11 track release plus 4 bonus tracks. Tracks: 1. Selectivity, 2. Creation (Fanfare For A Third Millenium), 3. Staying Active, 4. It's Your World, 5. Theme From Dirty Harry, 6. Summer Fantasy, 7. Don't Let Money Be Your God, 8. Nutrition, 9. Serenity, 10. Check It Out, 11. Grass Is Not Greener, Bonus tracks 1. Austin's Theme, 2. Theme From A Far Away Land, 3. Man Of Mystery, 4. Creation (Ceasefire Harlem Mix)

Feel the Funk.....
This album really got me going - I found it in a friend's garage on tape & then just had to buy it. I'd only heard one JTQ album previously; which I loved, but this one really seems to expand on the range & diverslty of both instruments & funky style. The second track just pulled me right into the staccato funk-wah riff, coupled with the swirling hammond signature to produce an astounding piece of 70's cop-show nuance. I love funk & this is just a prime example of another British export that defies the normal drabness of a chart saturated British music market. More!

Yes, But...
Great vibe from the start...then they run it into the ground. If there is one band who could use a George Martin-like producer, it's these guys. They lack nothing except the understanding that not every song needs to be breakneck funk. You can pretty much just listen to one song off this CD (any track will do) and you've listened to the whole thing. That's how uniform it is.
