This product is incredible! Let me first tell you that I have had the hardest time finding a carrier to take my 30 pound pup on rides with me. I've gone though several products before finding this one. It seemed none of them had the strength to or safety components to make me feel comfortable that my pup is safe on the bike. Pros: - This is an actual pet carrier designed for pets and to safely carry your pet while bike riding. - The 4-point harness connects on all four sides and once adjusted you never have to adjust it again. To add, this harness also has two buckles on the collar instead of one, which makes it very easy to get Baxter in and out without obstructions. Once he's in you just click the two buckles together and off we go! - The Mat is fully reversible so you can pick which fabric your pet would prefer. Also this makes a pretty comfy seat cushion for myself as I can disconnect the harness, remove and lay flat on the ground as a seat for me once we get to point B if I forget my blanket. - I love the classic "Bike with a milk crate look" and like the look even more with my pupper safely inside. This thing turns heads! So cute! - All you need is a bike with a rack and one of the two sized crates specified. - If you don't have a crate already attached to your bike rack this product does come with 120 pound tension heavy duty zip ties so you can easily, safely and securely attach your crate once found. Cons: - It does not come with the standard milk crate(s). (I actually had one in my garage but they're pretty cheap if not free to acquire just do some research) - The harness can be a little tricky to set to the appropriate length in the beginning (but its nice cause you only have to adjust this one time) The main takeaway is that there is finally a safe way to bike travel with your pet larger than 10 pounds! Just keep in mind this is an accessory to assist in safe pet travel. I guess it makes sense being called "CrateMate" as you still need a couple basic things to complete this products full potential. You wont be disappointed with this well thought out product! Let the fun begin!

I NEVER leave reviews for merch, but the makers of this bike pet carrier are inventors after my own heart!! They saw a need for a product and they solved it! My doggo is 24lbs so she does not fit in the standard front-mounted, basket-style pet carrier like a tiny little (15lbs or less) doggo would. Also, they make pet trailers, which I used to have for my old bike, but the way they attach to the rear wheel is simply not possible with my new electric bike. (In case anyone is wondering, it's a Rad Power Bike with a Rad Power Bike Rear Rack mounted to it.) My husband strapped a milk crate (with bungee cords) to the rear rack of his bike, so he could grab groceries and get them home easily, and I thought to myself, "You know, the dog would fit in something like that. But how can I make it safe?" And then I started to Google, and BEHOLD, the RuffLyfe DIY crate conversion kit! It is perfection. We just had our inaugural ride today and boy was that fun! (The look on this one little girl's face as we rode past the elementary school was priceless.) My dog was scared at first, but lots of hot dog bites and soothing pats calmed her down, and when we actually got moving she was very calm and still. I firmly believe she will grow to love it! (She was afraid to kayak at first too, but now she hops right on.) The kit comes with 1.) zip ties to fasten the crate securely to your rear rack 2.) the padding that goes around the back edge of the milk crate and the bottom, and most importantly 3.) the safety harness with four straps to make sure your pup is properly strapped in and secure. Note: the rear rack itself, as I said, was purchased separately, as was the large milk crate. (She fits in a standard size milk crate, but she is more comfortable in the longer one, and there was plenty of room for it on my rear rack, so that worked out great.) I highly recommend this awesome DIY pet carrier!! It is THE solution I've been looking for! I am SO looking forward to all the fun park biking adventures that the pup and I can now have together. I love ! It is perfect for my 25Ib dogs milk crate basket. I love that it has an attachment harness that WORKS! I just started riding an Ebike so I am a little wobbly at times. I lost my balance on a street crossing light. The bike tipped over and my dog(who is just fine) fell over with the bike. The harness actually prevented her from getting hurt as it restrained her safely. This crate conversion kit was easy to put together and install. HOWEVER, it didn't get a 5 star review because the zip ties that come with it are garbage and break when you bump the crate getting on and off the bike. Invest in some quality zip ties and you have yourself a nice system for taking your dog for a bike ride. We followed an online video tutorial and it was a piece of cake. The collar attachment is loose enough for a dog to fully turn around, but not escape. The crate system is best suited for a step-through bike or a handlebar cargo rack. The crate sits up pretty high in the back making it a little more difficult to swing your leg over while getting on and off the bike. This is where we bumped it and the zip ties snapped easily.

10/10 do recommend! I have a very social and energetic dog - so if I went biking, he had to come along of course! My pup is 27 pounds (American Eskimo) and I was worried I wouldn’t find something big enough for him. But after some research, stumbled upon this product and it does just the trick! He fits perfectly and even has some extra room to move around. I added some extra padding on the bottom (cut a foam kitchen mat) and added the pool noddle ($1). I even reached out to the company via Facebook and they sent me a collar extended for FREE to ensure it was big enough to fit my dog comfortably! If you have an Eskimo, you know, he needs the seat belt lolol. I love this set up and we have so much fun riding together! Only recommendation - don’t put the basket too close to your bike seat. It won’t be as comfortable. Don’t wait - you want this!

I don’t understand the bad review here that made me second guess myself before purchasing. However, I’m very happy I took a chance on this one. First off - the price can’t be beat for the thought that went into designing this product. I’m going to section this review into 3 parts, covering the 3 parts of this product that you will be receiving. The mat is about a quarter inch thick all around and provides plenty of cushion on the bottom as well as the sides. In addition the mat is reversible offering two different fabrics to choose from while still being neutral gray in color to go with any color bike you may have. The harness is of a nylon material much like a leash. You can adjust this as high or low as your pet needs from the crate to the collar. The collar part also adjusts to size, once adjusted it velcros down to ensure it won’t slip from place. The best part and what I think is the most genius about this harness is the double collar buckle. With this feature you don’t ever have to adjust the collar again, just un-click both buckles and move the harness off to each side and your pet can be lifted straight in/out. The ties are (about 10 inch) 120-pound tension nylon zip ties. I only needed 4 of them but it’s nice to have some extra just incase I have to remove and reattach the crate down the road for some reason. Nothing too special about these except they are very heavy-duty ties and once attached my little man feels secure and the crate is going nowhere. Yes, you need to provide the crate as this is a product able to fit into two different sized crates, so pick the right size for your pet to be comfy. I knew these crates came in so many different colors and this is how I customized it to match my bike. I have accents of royal blue in my bike frame so I did a little research and found a royal blue 16-quart crate which makes this look so AWESOME! In conclusion, If you’re looking for fluff or lots of bells and whistles this product probably isn’t for you. But if you’re looking for a safe and secure way to bike ride with your pet then look no further this product does just that A+++

As a Frenchie owner I have been on the hunt for something that would work on my bike for bringing the little guy with me when we go out on our local bike trail. When I stumbled upon this item I was super excited to see the reviews and also the photos, particularly the other Frenchie owners. It seemed a little pricey for what I was getting , but like most "we will spend that $$ to have our furry friends along with us". Item arrived in a very nice custom box which included the instructions on the box. What you receive is some large zip ties, a special harness that unclips on both sides like a clam shell, and a cushion that has some folds in it. * YOU WILL NEED TO PURCHASE A MILK CRATE* I will say Phred loves it, and as you can see from the pics he is totally chill riding in his new bike basket. Some suggestions I would make to first the manufacturer... thicker cushion and make it wrap the whole crate. As you can see Phred likes to lean his head on the crate as we cruise.....I did flip the seat cushion around after our first adventure so he can be resting on the cushion as opposed to the plastic crate. I also went and grabbed a pool noodle and cut it so it goes over the back rail, but again it seems most of his "resting" is done on the front and sides. Also please note this is in a large Milk crate. Phred is 25 pounds and 11 months old. I would go much bigger since he seems to JUST FIT in this set up. I do love this and feel Phred also enjoys the rides, I just feel at the price point it is selling at, a thicker and wrap around cushion would be ideal. Happy riding!

Love it! It creates a comfortable padded box for your crate. And being able to snap the collar around your dog during your rides ensures they will stay put. My dog loves it and I'm pretty sure he feels much safer being strapped in. With my crate, there is enough room add a blanket or towel for extra comfortable and security. He looks so cute and gets tons of head turns on our rides.
