This older home is under 900 sq ft, that was one of the reasons why I mounted the TV in front of the window, so the wall can still have cabinets and a counter top added to it. I had to go through 2 ceilings, the first layer and the 2nd layer which was one inch above the first. I used a cheap hand held sheet rock saw that costs under 5 bucks. Just trace around the bracket and cut all the way into the attic, one layer at a time, if you also have more than one. Then go up into the attic to cut 2 x 4's to fit into the floor joists up there, then mount it into those 2x4's using the long screws provided or buy appr 7 inch long carriage bolts. I went with carriage bolts to make sure "" it's never going to fall out now."" I mounted it really solid, I won't bore you with all of it. The two ceilings added up to 1 3/4 inches from within my bedroom to the bottom of the sheet rock up in the attic, so I added two one inch pieces of wood the size of the bracket and bolted it all into the 2 x 4 up in the attic. I went "" ALL WOOD "" connection, no sheet rock in between the wood. You could just add 2 x 4 up in the attic and put the provided screws through your sheet rock ceiling into the 2 x 4. It depends on how solid do you want it mounted. I mounted it so "" it's never falling out."" You might get lucky where you won't need to add any wood, it depends on you. You can see in the picture where I have appr 1/4 inch wood extending out from under the bracket, that's from those two one inch pieces I added to fill in the space between both ceilings. The bracket is made to where it can fit up in there by maybe one inch, I rather have the 1/4 inch wood extending out instead of the bracket going up in there some. It took me appr 5 hours total, most of that was spent mounting the bracket very solid, the rest is easy. All the needed screws and other stuff is provided, 5 stars would purchase again.
