Then how is it tha I've owned so many of them over the years that didn't work? I use this one with an M1 MacMini (silver color) and find the color match is ideal. I also have a couple disk drives that match the "stack" -- so I have four "mini" stacked up and it makes a great form factor and tons and tons of capacity. Incidentally, one of my disk drives is used daily and the other, though constantly connected, is only a backup drive using backup software programmed to back it all up about once per week. I always by 256Gb (startup drive) Macs and then store my data on external drives or in the cloud. But any external drive is backed up frequently. As to the dock, I think one reason that it works is because USB-C has more channels/I/O capacity that older USB-A computers. All of my permanent drives are plugged in the back of the MacMini and the front receptacles on this hub are for one off reads or writes. (Satechi Tech Support) **Q: Will this work for the new m1 Mac mini?** A: This is a great add for my 2018, ie “2020” Mac mini but mine is not the M1. Based on my research I would think it could but double check the Thunderbolt connection. I recently bought an external HD that would not work on my 2018 model because the drive used a USB-C 3.1 and I guess mine are 3.0. I got it to work using the normal USB but that wasn’t my goal. You may experience the same here. You’re basically trading a Thunderbolt port to add 2 USB and media card slots. Overall I'm happy with it because I like having ports up front...but the Front USB-C port passed through from the Mac mini only get's about half the data transfer to an external SSD vs Plugging the external SSD directly in the same port on the Mac mini that the hub uses.
