BRILLIANT
I ordered this with much scepticism thinking that it would be some flimsy rubbish that would bend the second it saw my lawn but how wrong I was. This is really well put together and feels like it is a quality product. It has a nice sturdy construction with some decent joins and welds on it. The handle is nicely padded and good to work with. My lawn is mostly like concrete as soon as things get a little drier and is full of stones and other assorted rubbish, so going at it with this thing was the start of the war to rejuvenate it. When I used it, it was the start of March and the lawn hadn't yet dried out from the winter so everything was nice and soft. This cut into the ground like butter and produced clean cores each time. I only had to un block it three times I think whilst I was doing it and I have about a 60 foot garden so was out there for around an hour doing this. I managed to get a rhythm where I could keep my foot on the top of the splines and sort of step, press, lift, step press in one akward motion and it works really well. I hit stones and bits of brick (?) at some point but this thing didn't care. It either cut trough that stuff or kind of pushed it aside. My dog also had great fun following me around sniffing all the holes in the ground and then chasing the soil cores as she is weird and loves it when you throw clumps of mud... My only criticism of this is that it is quite short and I think it could do with being a bit longer, or have different lengths on offer. I am 5"9 ish and I had to bend considerably to use this and it did cause pain in the back, just slightly longer and it would be ok. Overall if you need to use a hollow tine Aerator and want one which will get through your lawn and be useful for many uses beyond you should really consider this piece of equipment. It comes highly recommended from me.

Great item never blocks up and the workout is good also.
I needed a core aeration tool as i refuse to rent one due to the size of my garden. I did a lot of research after being a fool and going for a very cheap one, (that was terrible and wouldnt even break through the ground). I have heavy clay soil and was concerned that i would struggle using this however i gave the lawn a good soaking the night before and went at it with this, it's absolutely brilliant, with minimal effort just a bit of weight it core aerates with ease and the plugs discharge perfectly. Wish i had bought one sooner and i cannot recommend this highly enough. Also delivery timescale stated a few weeks, i needed not fear it was here in days.

Mostly good
I found this hit and miss. In my front lawn (stickier soil, more clay) I found it jammed up and did not expel the nuggets of dirt from the top of the tines. It effectively became a non-hollow ram, making a hole, but compressing the dirt around the hole. A different story on my back lawn where the soil is slightly less clay-like. Each press of the aerator generated a satisfying plug of dirt appearing from the top of the tine which I collected up afterwards. So the success of this tool will depend on the consistency of your soil. When it worked, it worked extremely well. Easy to press into the grass too, went in like butter.

Great manual aerator
Great lawn aerator. Spray some silicone or WD40 into the tines to stop soil sticking

Worth the extra cost
I know this item seems a little expensive for what it is and there are cheaper models available, but it is sturdy and well made. The handle is made of solid metal rather than a hollow tube, so it should be stronger and more hard wearing than the cheaper ones. It worked well during a short test, even on my dry-ish lawn, removing cores without much effort. Its currently the wrong time of year for aeration so I havent done the whole lawn area but there were no signs of it clogging up in the few square metres that I did. Quite looking forward to autumn when I can give it (and me) a real work-out! I might be stating the obvious but walking backwards while using it avoids stepping on the extracted cores.

Best manual areator on the market. Easy, lightweight and works on tough soil.
This yard butler is amazing. Ignore the reviews that read the soil is stuck or its too difficult to remove the plugs from the hollow prongs. You need to wet the soil (not drown it) sufficiently enough in order to areate with ease. The plugs just pop right out. I had doubts, especially after reading the negative reviews. I have hard clay soil thats full of stones. Last areator could never get through it. I bought a cheap five hollow prongged areator before this, which was crap. Kept clogging and instead of removing plugs resulting in compacting the soil even more. This works a dream and is well worth the money. It pulls out big plugs, even in tough clay soil like mine. I definitely recommend buying the yard butler for your garden.

After reading some negative reviews I was a little concerned in buying this tool as it was not cheap. I needn't have worried, it is a great garden tool that is simple yet effective. Firstly it is made from steel bar and not metal tubing so it is sturdy and unlikely to bend, unless subjected to serious abuse. The crossways handle and foot brace both allow for pressure to be applied easily. It is important that the soil be moist to allow for the plugs to be removed whole and to keep the shape of the resultant hole intact. Dry soil that is like solid concrete will be a struggle and overly saturated soil will just be a mud bath! I have used it on both paspalum lawn laid by sod (dense) and zoysia japonica, underlain by red Dubai desert sand. It is very satisfying to quickly extract rows of lawn/soil plugs. The tines do block from time to time and this should be expected due to variations in soil, grass, sod etc. Sometimes applying more force on the next insertion clears the blockage, or rotating 180 degrees for a slightly different angle of attack. Though the instructions indicate to use a large screwdriver or similar tool to unblock, I found that the hosepipe set onto 'jet' was far quicker and less effort, though make sure that you have your gardening clothes on (and goggles for the cautious) as initial blowback water will go in every direction! All in all, very satisfied with this purchase.

Muy resistente. Hay que regar bien el pasto o tierra antes de poder descorazonar. Los agujeros siguen en mi jardín después de 2 semanas y el pasto ha mejorado un poco. Ahora me falta un buen fertilizante para complementar.

I started to use it a couple days ago, to aerate my backyard(50x60) and my front yard (25x50). After 1 hour, I have completed around 40% of the backyard. I can't wait to get some free time and use it again. I found the product to be easy of use. It's very sturdy and even if not wet it goes easily underground. However, if the lawn is too dry, it may get clogged. It will also get clogged if the lawn is soaking wet. The perfect condition I found was 2-3 days after a good rain. It will at some point get clogged but keep a screwdriver on you and you'll be all right as it's easy to remove the dirt. The holes the product makes are deep and a good size, this will certainly help the lawn grow back. Don't bother to even try to break it....it's very sturdy and it will last for years. Aeration in my city cost around 60 $ so it's already a good investment. The only thing I dislikes is that I'm 6' foot tall and it's a tiny bit small so the back will hurt a bit in the long run. And the knees always hit the metal bar. It's more a problem with how big my lawn is, but someone with a smaller lawn won't feel these issues at all. Overall I'm very satisfied with the product and I recommend it 100%.
