If anyone has a check engine light show up on their car, they already know repair shops charge in excess of 50-60 dollars just to pull the code for a quick diagnostic check. Typically dealerships or mechanics you have a good relationship apply this cost to the actual repair as a goodwill, but more often than not resolving simple issues (like replacing a sensor, loose wire connections) can be can be diagnosed and fixed at the home garage. This particular device lets you pull these codes, conveniently look them up in a built in database, monitor key vehicle parameters and to enable you to run simple diagnostic procedures to be find and fix issues with your car. I had a check engine light show up on my car a couple of weeks ago and i was shopping for a similar device and found this one that fit within my price range. And so far it has already paid for itself within a day of owning it! i was able to find and clear the code, find the issue in the vehicle and apply a quick fix to resolve it. Here are the Pros - 1. Easy and self explanatory interface with the instruction manual directly on the device 2. No separate charging or battery required as the device is powered directly off the OBD connector 3. fault code database directly on the device for easy lookup (some codes are proprietary and may not available but they are very easily looked up in your car service manual or a simple google search) 4. Ability to monitor key vehicle parameters and log data, and transfer this data to a computer via a serial port and supplied USB cable. Cons - 1. The product looks substantial and somewhat rugged, but it feels light and plasticky when you handle it. This isn't related to the functionality of the product at all. But a little more heft to the body, and rubber grips will go a long way to giving this product a "premium" feel. 2. Contact switches below the buttons are somewhat stiff and centered - so you have to be right in the middle of the button with a slightly higher push force to recognize the input. (compared to other devices people may be used to). These are minor nitpicks however, and does not in anyway affect the overall functionality of the product. I will post a follow up review in about 6months to add comments on durability of the product. Until then 5 stars!

I recently purchased this LAUNCH X431 PROS V+ Elite Bidirectional Scan Tool. As someone who’s comfortable around cars but not a mechanic by trade, I think this is a fantastic scan tool for anyone in general, but with it’s bidirectional capabilities and other advanced functions, it is absolutely geared towards professionals as well who rely on scan tools such as this in their everyday lives. In my experience of using it, this tool has been very accurate in finding and detailing problems (which I confirmed with other diagnostic tools I own), even finding other issues that my other tried and true scan tools did not. This scan tool is responsive, incredibly so. It’s very quick to perform diagnostic scans without making you wait long at all. In addition, it is very easy to navigate and not spend a lot of time searching for the function or test that you need, given that the Home Screen is very well laid out and menus very easy to navigate. This scan tool is built incredibly well! It definitely was designed to take some abuse seeing how well constructed it is and how solid it feels in your hands. The scan tool has 37+ reset functions, it is capable of ECU Coding, IMMO Functions, OEM Diagnostics, and it comes with CANFD connector which allows for diagnosing more vehicle all the way up to the newest 2024 makes and models. Some of the features it has are: Adblue Reset, key programming, VAG Guided Functions, Programmable Module Installation, ECU Coding, a range of online features, and reset functions like EPB, Suspension, oil, ABS, SRS, Throttle, BMS, and many more. I couldn’t possibly cover all of the features that this scan tool has in its arsenal in a single review. Overall, I feel this is LAUNCH X431 PROS V+ Elite is an incredibly capable scan tool for a hobbyist, or a professional mechanics who rely on the features and functions that this scan tool has in their everyday lives. It’s capable of doing more things than I’m sure I would ever need in my lifetime! I’m incredibly happy with it and I’m very happy I chose this one out of the others I was considering. I feel this one is without question worth every penny and then some!

This is a must to have around. As a car guy with a couple of cars, one of them being a track oriented car, having this around is very useful. This could save you a ton of money by being able to see exactly why your check engine light is on before heading to the mechanic. We’ve all heard the stories of the mechanics taking advantage of people, so being informed is the first step. Worked on my corvette, Silverado and CX9! 4 stars only because the packaging it comes in is terrible and huge pain to get out!

As an automotive technician for 18 years, I have used many different diagnostics scan tools. The Launch X431 PROS V+ has far exceeded my expectations! The price does not reflect it's ability. The device is small, light, and fairly quick at loading. Data acquisition is not the fastest, but it is helpful at getting the job done. Having full bidirectional controls is a must have in a good scan tool, which this device has. I find it very useful for setting the electronic parking in maintenance mode. Grabbing the X431 is so much faster than setting up the factory tool just to scan codes and check data. You can do a full system scan and generate a vehicle report, show all vehicle DTCs. The report can be printed and attached to the repair order or emailed to a client. I was worried about leaving the wireless OBD dongle behind in a vehicle, however when it disconnects there is a reminder alarm from the handheld. Overall my experience has been great and I have recommended Launch to my co-workers that are looking for a scanner and do not want to spend $$$$!
