It must be noted the I am semi professional when it comes to fitting laminate type flooring. Having mulled over this device for a while I decided to take the plunge and buy it. Initially it took a little bit of experimenting to get used to how this device functions but it does work. The tool is spring loaded, with a wheel on the end which you run along the wall/skirting etc. There is a hole where you fit a round pencil in, it has a rubber o ring inside which holds the pencil by way of friction. The pencil is attached to a movable part, for which you set by the way of guides on the top of the tool and then lock it in place using "screw clamp". There is a "guide" which has a straight edge that you run along the edge of the laminate. The spring acts to keep the wheel end against the wall thus allowing the pencil part to move in a tracing action. I won't try to explain how the tool works in any detail as it is very hard to do so in words, you should watch the instructional video, but basically you use the notches on the top to set the "width" of the laminate, this will give you approximately a 10-15mm gap from the edge (wall/skirting etc). You then "trace" along the wall using the tool. Cutting along the traced line should give you a near perfect fit for the final end pieces. It does take a bit of practice to get the best out of this tool but once your used to it, it is definitely a big help when it comes to the last row cuts, especially on walls the have an uneven profile. I like to adjust the tool so that the gap from the edge left after cutting is less, approx 5mm. This has to be done manually, I usually move the pencil part by 10mm to achieve this. One thing that a long of people mention and leave negative reviews for is all about the pencil not having enough pressure to make a mark of the surface of the laminate. I do believe this is unfair as this is not a fault with the tool. Using common sense, most surfaces of laminates will not show pencil marks even with heavy pressure. To overcome this, I always use a run of wide white masking tape on top of the laminate, you then draw along this. Your pencil marks will then show perfectly and depending on the type of flooring your using, masking tape will often result in a cleaner cut too, especially if the finished surface chips easily. Overall, this tool works well with a bit of practice and I would recommend this tool.
