Anyone know how this differs from topdon ab100? marketing for bt100 includes boats, but not clear how they differ? ab100 has copper clamps i think.

No difference, unless the test range is smaller ab100. If cca range is same, then you should be fine with using either one.

Does this automotive battery analyzer apply a load to the battery?

No, you have to crank the engine to apply a load for testing. The unit is too small to apply a useful load on it's own.
