Would have bought the one with the fish but wasn't aware that it existed. Anyway, the fountain seemed to be having a problem so took it apart and saw that the filter looked not so good. Turned the filter upside down and ran good for a week or so before I installed the second filter that came with the unit. It ran soooo much better! Got on the PC and ordered these replacement filters. Will be keeping a better eye on the fountain and plan to always have a package of these on hand.By the way, I was totally unaware that cats have a perception problem with water in a stagnant bowl hence the need for a fountain. I haven't had a cat since I was a teenager in the dark ages so who knew - my sister did. I recommend you to buy these filter when the fountain needs to be maintained. ### ⭐⭐ 2.0 out of 5 stars Overpriced but needed. *by B***S on Reviewed in the United States on June 18, 2018* Too expensive for what it is, I think you could make your own for a lot cheaper...but I’m not that creative. And these filter don’t last long. But you HAVE to use these in your frog or fish Cats Rule watering fountain. When the filter gets gross and scuzzy, your fountain will let you know by sputtering and making a terrible noise. What I do is take out the filter and wash it really good with soap and water and a tiny bit of bleach. But you HAVE to use soap, just rinsing with water won’t cut it. Sometimes it only lasts for a few days, then you gotta wash it again. And yes, I take the whole fountain apart and wash all the pieces weekly. Also, one of the filters in my 3 pack wasn’t constructed well, it wasn’t glued evenly together so there was a small seam opening that charcoal can shake out from. I used it anyway, just put the torn side on top. Just seems like $5 per little filter is way overpriced to me.
