Encyclopedia of Animals

We LOVE this book. It has been so abused over the few months we have had it!! I honestly am surprised it has not fallen completely apart. But it is holding strong. The facts in the book seem to correspond with other books we use and there is just enough information to not overwhelm my students. We currently use it along with the Elemental Science Biology books and it has been an great resource. I’m so glad I made the purchase versus getting one from the library! There are also many great pictures for each animal featured.

I purchased DK's Encyclopedia of Animals along with a few other books for an upcoming zoology study my kids will be doing in the near future. When received, I immediately flipped through the pages... and WOW! The pictures are amazing and what I would expect from a DK book! This encyclopedia is very informative and engaging not to mention HUGE. My son decided to look through it and was so excited by all the facts he didn't know about his favorite animals. My only regret is not purchasing this one in hardback because I know it will be used often (although the softcover seems very durable)! This book is a fantastic addition to my family's homeschool library.

Good pics, Good info. 6 1/2 yr old initiating reading with it. We also purchased the First Encyclopedia of Animals - which he reads independently, but he loves all the information in the bigger book, even though he needs help with a lot of words! He will not be outgrowing this book for a long time. Lots of "I wonder" opportunities. Good for when you have 15-30 min before the next part of your day. I have already purchased 2 more for gifts - which inspired spontaneous "oh, cool" comments! Cover with contact paper because it will be well read.

Every child should have this book! Its full of so many photos of all different kinds of animals and lots of great information as well. My three year old loves to page through this book and the information is concise enough that I can quickly read a page or paragraph and tell her about the animal, yet it has enough info that we both learn something new. We plan to use this as a resource for many years to come, but its great just for looking at pictures even now! I think it should come in hardcover, but I couldn't tell if the hardcover version was the same or if it was an older edition since it looks different. We have the soft cover and it looks like will hold up ok, but being such a big heavy book I'd rather it was hard cover. Oh well. I debated between this book and the "my first" version and chose this, I'm glad I did, the "my first" just didn't seem to have as much info or animals in it as this one. This one isn't overwhelming either, its great!

My daughter is very interested in this book. Three photos are fantastic.

Good encyclopedia overall. Obviously it won’t include every animal, but my daughter was disappointed flamingos didn’t merit a mention. Also, snakes are venomous and not poisonous like this book says....something my 9 years old caught that I’m surprised the editors missed. We bought this to use for our homeschool biology study. Would buy again.

I purchased this book for my sons 4th birthday because he loves animals. This book was such a hit that he preferred to look at the book over playing with his new toys and Grandma and Grandpa loved it too. My 6 year old daughter has been found going through the pages and reading about her favorite animals. The pictures are great and include interesting tidbits about each animal. I had purchased my copy at Barnes and Noble for $20 but saw that it was on Amazon for only $14 so I ordered another. I figure that this would be a good Xmas gift or a perfect birthday gift to have on hand. You will not be disappointed and neither will your child!

I truly cannot recommend this book enough!! For the animal lovers out there (both young and old!), I highly recommend this encyclopedia. The pictures are vibrant and beautiful, the information provided on the animals are amazing. I am a homeschool parent and have also learned new things from reading this with my daughter! I purchased the paperback book and have no complaints about it. I would have preferred the hardcover but decided to give the paperback a try due to the price difference. I would do it again! Don't hesitate to purchase the paperback. No regrets!

This book is too good..my son loves it..introduce ur kids with animal pictures n tell interesting facts about animals..their picturization memory will increase if u introduce more books like this.This book gives lot of information regarding each animal..
