Long Story Short No. This is a seasonal bug repellant that is commercially sold as safe for kids and pets as soon as you water it in, so it is not a serious chemical. If there are some bugs doing some serious damage by consuming your lawn, this will definitely help, but you are going to need more than ten pounds. I have a small yard and needed thirty pounds to get results in the end. This is not going to provide protection for you from more advanced infestations like fire ants. This is a general product for the health of your lawn. It will do basically nothing for fire ants or serious infestations of anything terribly significant. The best thing is to get something fire ant specific, they are difficult to kill.

How large of an area does this cover (in sq feet?)

The 20 lb bag covers approximately 20,000 square feet, a 10 Lb half that much. I would suggest getting a spreader so that you can set it to the correct spreading number as the bag recommends to get the most appropriate amount for your yard per square foot.

Does it help control grease/sugar ants that are in the lawn.

Yes it kills ants as grease and sugar ants l am not sure what they are. But it does work on all the ants in Texas.
