What a tremendous tool! This Ferro rod is intuitive to use, highly effective, and rugged. It produces a large amount of sparks, and ignites tinder readily. I'd buy this again.

AWESOME FIRE STARTER!! Been using these brand for many years!! A Must Have for every bug out bag or GOOD bag!! A great survivalist must have tool.

With high expectation we purchased two of these. On one we cleaned the ferro rod removing the outer black coating. With each strike it did produce many sparks, thus ready for our tests. Beginning simple using tissue paper stripped to smaller pieces creating a birdsnest configuration, we attempted to light it with Light My Fire. With the tool on the tissue paper or barely above it, it put out many sparks, however none of the sparks could light tissue paper. Next test we used toilet paper (TP) ripping it to shreds making a birdsnest bundle. Again Light My Fire would make many sparks, but not catch the TP on fire. For another test we used regular kitchen paper towel. Ripping it to pieces creating a birdsnest, same-same, many sparks without them lighting the papers. We tried regular ole newspaper, same results or lack there of. We were very confused. Yes scrapping ferro rod clearly produces sparks, but not fire on what should be easily flamable paper products. Final test was with a cotton balls. Pulling apart the cotton balls created more surface area and small fibers for sparks to catch on. Again the birdsnest, it took the Light My Fire many strikes producing many sparks, finally we get the cotton ball burning. Our conclusion, yes the Light My Fire does produce many sparks, however sparks were not hot enough to catch those paper products on fire. Over a few days the above tests were attempted numerous time with those papers, dried grass and the like. Each time the rod produced sparks but nothing caught on fire. Sadly, we returned both Light My Fire boxes to Amazon.

I purchased a Light My Fire 2.0 Army ferro rod last year and I was happy with my purchase then. This past summer, I went on a camping trip and took that one with me and it worked great. This past week I was looking for it and could not find it and I thought I might have left it 200 miles away at my campsite. As I really liked it, I decided to replace it with the same model only to discover that Light My Fire has superseded it with the bio plastic one. I applaud Light My Fire for using recycled plastic but the new model is different from the older model. I ended up finding the first one I purchased so I took pictures to compare. The new bio version comes with a shorter lanyard and it is too short. I recommend replacing it. My biggest disappointment is that they changed the ferrocerium composition in this version. You can see from my pictures that the rod is different. The old model (on top) was struck more times but looks like it has been barely used and trying to light a vasoline covered cotton ball took more strikes. I think they replaced a harder compound for a softer one which is why I am disappointed. I do plan on keeping it in a pack so I am covered in an emergency.

To start I'm not going to dock a star off this product cause the ferro rod works well and the striker is very functional and makes it throw sparks very effectively as for the built in whistle to the striker maybe I got the technique wrong or the ergonomics make it weird to use but the whistle but as I said maybe the ergonomics make it weird to use it but aside from that the ferro rod works great the handles are ergonomic and the strikers handle is ergonomic as well making getting a firm grip easy. Overall I'd recommend this for a ferro rod its size its functional and easily pocketable plus the thickness of it means you shouldn't have to worry about wearing it out quickly.

Light My Fire is my preferred go-to and simply the best auermetall firesteels you can buy! I don't mind the mischmetal rods used by the majority of other companies and what appears to be the same rods but rebranded. There is just something wonderful and magic about the harder composition of auermetall. Definitely my favorite firesteels.

Internetteki videolarda da gordum ki tamamen dogal materyal kullanildigi takdirde bu urunle ates yakmak gercekten de zor. Urunu biraz daha deneyecegim. Performans alabilirsem yorumu guncellerim.

Nothing against the Ferro rods themselves - I have used them before and they work great. However, they mixed up the quantity (ordered 15, 14 showed up) and model (ordered Army, got a mix of Army and Scout) I ordered so have to go through the hassle of returning it and re-ordering. UPDATE: The seller/brand is great and reached out really quickly to help resolve the order issue even though Amazon is responsible for the gathering and shipment of the product. So the 5 stars are for the product and service, and the previous 3 star rating was in regards to Amazon's poor attention to detail.

Sowas ist in Miniatur in den meisten Feuerzeugen verbaut. Das ist eine uralte Erfindung 1903 von Auer von Welsbach patentiert. Ja: der mit den Glühstrümpfen. Das beruht darauf, dass Eisen-Cer-Legierungen besonders leicht oxidieren. Funken kann man auch mit kohlenstoffreichem Stahl erzeugen, indem man den z.B. mit Flint schlägt. Flint heißt deswegen auch Feuerstein, aber das ist irreführend: Man kann mit jedem Material, das härter ist, als der Stahl, Funken schlagen. Siehe den Wunderkerzeneffekt von einer Trennscheibe :-). Nur ist das sehr mühsam, weil die Ausbeute ohne Cer im Eisen miserabel ist, und man mit den klobigen Mittelalter-Nachbauten nicht nahe an den Zunder kommt, die Funken sind nach ca. 1 cm erloschen. Hier ist noch Lanthan beilegiert, was heißere Funken ergibt, was es auch schon im Auer-Patent als Auer-Metall II gab, aber vermutlich nicht in sehr vielen billigen anderen Produkten. Dazu kommt dann noch Magnesium, das bis zu 3.000 °C heiße Funken ergibt. Da gibt's wegen der "Magnesiumfeuerstarter" Aufklärungsbedarf, denn mit Magnesium allein kann man keine Funken erzeugen. Die Produkte, die funktionieren, bestehen aus einem Magnesiumblock mit eingearbeitetem - Cereisen :-). Man schabt Magnesiumspäne als Zunder ab, und entzündet das dann mit dem Cereisen. Leider ist die Sachkunde der diversen Händler offenbar sehr bescheiden, denn da werden z.B. 3.000 Grad heiße Magnesiumfeuerstarter angeboten, und man weiß als Kunde nie, was genau das denn nun sein soll, denn mit Magnesium allein - geht nicht. Natürlich ist auch bei einem reinen Magnesiumstab Feuerstarter nicht wirklich gelogen, weil auch ein Grillanzünder ein solcher ist, und wahrscheinlich schreibt man schnell mal Magnesium, wegen der wunderbaren 3.000 Grad. Das Produkt hier ist also rein technisch state of the art, und wurde auch für militärische Zwecke entwickelt, zumindest diese Legierung. Warum habe ich das gekauft? Lagerfeuer sind in fast ganz Europa illegal, außer z..B. auf Campingplätzen mit entsprechenden Feuerstellen, weil das buchstäblich brandgefährlich ist, und der Hobo-Kocher ist in meinen Augen Liebhaberei, weil Holz nichtmal den halben Brennwert von nur auch Spiritus hat, und jenseits der Baumgrenze gibt's kein Holz, und im Wald Holz machen ist auch illegal, wenn man vom Grundbesitzer keine Erlaubnis hat. Der "Vorteil", dass man da keinen Brennstoff mitschleppen mus, ist also keiner. In den meisten youtube-Videos zeigen da die Bushcrafter, wie sie da so bushcraften verschweigen aber dezent, dass sie die Erlaubnis dazu haben. Ich habe einen Hobo-Kocher, weil sich niemand drum schert, wenn man den aus Liebhaberei dort benutzt, wo wirklich nichts passieren kann, also die Lagerfeuerromantik im Kleinen, und es schert sich auch niemand drum, wenn man Klaubholz sammelt. Wenn schon, denn schon: Auch "erfahrene" Bushcrafter auf youtube nehmen oft ein Feuerzeug mit, aber der Feuerstahl gehört für mich dazu. Das ist ein Nachkauf, weil ich verwende die Light-my-Fire-Dinger schon sehr lange. Das hier hat eine "Notfallpfeife". Ich auch, von Fenix (ja, die mit den LED-Lampen), und die erbläst 120 dB - wie eine Luftschutzsirene - auf drei auch leiser ohrenschmerzenden dissonanten Frequenzen. Und ich hab' das nicht für den Notfall, we sich da eh niemand drum kümmert, sondern zur Kommunikation (ich bin Jollensegler :-)). Ist in meinen Augen halt ein Verkaufsargument und kostet nix. Bitte nicht den Stahl in der gesamten Länge anreißen wollen, also von oben weg, denn da hat man dann rasch in der Mitte eine Mulde, die immer tiefer wird. Das ist gar nicht notwendig, denn das zündet auch auf dem letzten Zentimeter gut. Damit hat man dann eine Art Zapfen, und die 12.000 Zündungen sind realistisch, sonst eher nicht. Die Meinungen gehen da auseinander, aber ich für meinen Teil habe die Erfahrung gemacht, dass es nicht so gut ist, wenn man mit dem Stab auf den Zunder zielt, und dann Funken abreißt, weil man dann leicht mit der Hand, in der man den Schaber hält, das Zunderhäufchen zerstört und wieder zusammenkratzen muss. Man kann das auch so machen, dass man den Schaber nahe zum Zunder hält, und den Stab dann nach hinten durchzieht. Jetzt habe ich lange geschwafelt, und ich bin in keinster Weise ein Light-my-Fire-Testimonial, aber bei meiner Suche nach einem Nachkauf, und ich bin da nicht auf Light-my-Fire fixiert, habe ich so viele schwammige Produktbeschreibungen mit auch nicht aufschlussreicheren Rezensionen gelesen, dass ich meinen Senf dazu auch geben wollte, because that is, what reviews are for :-)
