Get ready for laughs with an all-star cast in the outrageous comedy Wet Hot American Summer. It's the last day of Camp Firewood's season, but there's still time for the big talent show, a little romance…and for everyone to be wiped out by the piece of NASA's Skylab that's hurtling toward Earth. David Wain (Role Models) directs Paul Rudd (Knocked Up), Elizabeth Banks (The 40-Year-Old Virgin), Amy Poehler (Baby Mama), Bradley Cooper (The Hangover), Molly Shannon (Saturday Night Live), Janeane Garofalo (Reality Bites), David Hyde Pierce (Frasier) and Michael Showalter in "the most delectable satire in years." This has so many stars that are at the top of their game. A great collaboration of actors who were game for the assignment of creating a silly and off the wall film! Review: I found it hilarious.. - but it's definitely not for everyone. As the reviews show, this is a movie that you either love or hate. As some of the negative reviews have mentioned, there is a major lack of continuity in this film. This is something that made it really funny, in my opinion, and I would be willing to bet that those people didn't even notice exactly how much blatant discontinuity there was. In one particular scene, a character returns from a short trip with long, raggedy hair to talk to another character, and when the camera returns to him after she says something, his hair is at the length it was when he left. Just a couple minutes later, a similar thing happens with another character, even more obvious this time. I don't know about you, but I thought that was quite funny. What I think is a problem for those who don't like this movie is that they expect some blunt parody of the 80's camp movies, when it really isn't. I think it revels in the genre but isn't really trying to directly mock it like Scary Movie did to horror movies. While there is definite parody in it, much of it is simply demented, nonsensical fun. I found the lack of consistent parallels refreshing, and it kept the movie interesting. And you have to really pay attention to it, because there is subtle humor strewn throughout. I will say that I was a fan of The State in its days, but I had no idea that the people from that show had anything to do with this movie at the time I'd rented it. I just knew some people who thought it was funny. I also was never into 80's camp movies. So you don't have to be really knowledgeable of that genre to enjoy this. You do, however, need to have an appreciation for weirdness and an unusual sense of humor to really "get" this movie.

My favorite funny movie!
I initially checked out this movie from the local library. I was cracking up laughing throughout the whole movie. You just have to remain open and accepting of the kind of humor used in this movie. I realize that this kind of humor might not be for everyone. It’s similar to Woody Allen movies. You either like them or hate them. The stupid parts of the movie make it hilarious. The music used in the movie is excellent with some songs that made it to the top of the charts. (Kiss, Foreigner, etc.) I bought the blu-ray of this movie because I like it so much. I won’t provide any spoilers before you watch the movie. I don’t want to give away the story. The actors do a great job of interacting with each other. Just watch it and enjoy it!

WET HOT AMERICAN SUMMER is best for older teens and adults due to the frequency ...
Although it's one of the funniest comedies of the last 20 years, WET HOT AMERICAN SUMMER is best for older teens and adults due to the frequency of profanity, sexual references, and raunchy humor. This in no way diminishes the brilliance of this parody of early 1980s teenager coming-of-age movies, and, in fact, if this movie lacked profanity, sexual references, and raunchy humor, it wouldn't be much of a parody of those types of movies. The awareness of the form is pitch-perfect, as is the fearlessness in turning the form on its ear -- such as when the camp has a marriage ceremony for two gay male characters and celebrates their love, instead of what would have transpired in the less tolerant movies of the early 1980s. Everyone from Paul Rudd to Christopher Meloni, Janeane Garofalo to Michael Showalter, and Michael Ian Black turns in incredibly hilarious performances. Wet Hot American Summer belongs in the rarest of comedy movies that you can watch literally dozens of times and always find something new to laugh at. Just watch it once the kids are in bed.

... everyone I know who likes this movie is incredibly smart. This movie is more than a cult classic
I've noticed a trend in that everyone I know who likes this movie is incredibly smart. This movie is more than a cult classic, it's freaking fantastic. It transcends modern comedic writing to an imperceptible level for the masses, and it is so damn funny. If you're not ready for it, you'll think it's a horribly stupid movie (and it's not without it's faults, they really should have cut out every scene with the cook), but once you reach a level of comedic enlightenment, you realize that this gem is a caricature of itself in totally purposeful way. Pure genius.

This is my favourite movie. It cannot get funnier than this, folks. Watch this before watching the show, otherwise you will think the jokes in the show are overdone. My sister and I can't get enough of this movie; we quote it all the time, refer to the songs in it, and relate every day experiences to what happens in this movie. LOVE IT!!!

Mi spiace molto che al momento dell'acquisto non fosse stato segnalato che il DVD è di un'altra zona (USA) e che qui in Italia non può essere letto. Buttato via i soldi, pazienza......però la prossima volta avvisate !
