Best chair mat I've ever used
I moved recently into a new house and needed some chair mats to protect my carpet from computer chairs. I first had went with the cheapest and most economical option and bought some mats that only cost about 35$ each. I had read reviews that complained of chair wheels causing indentations into the mats that keep your chair in place, making it impossible to make small movements (with the wheel depressions if you tried to move a little bit you'd just roll make down into the depression). I thought I could overlook this and be happy with a cheap chair mat. Boy was I wrong, that issue was infuriating. Not only that, but my weight (225lbs) actually cracked and broke those mats only after a month or two use. But this mat is super thick and it's solid. I'm a pretty heavy guy with pretty heavy chairs (one is gaming and the other is office) and these mats are wonderful. I use them on pretty standard carpet and there's zero depressions that keep me from rolling around. It's been months and there's zero signs of cracking or breaking. So that brings us to the con that others here have mentioned. These mats are super slick and glossy. They DO slide around. And maybe this will depend a lot on your weight and your carpet, but I really hardly ever have a problem with this. The amounts that it slides are really small and unnoticeable for me and I have to readjust its position like once every other day or so at my office. At my gaming area it actually rests against a wall in front of me and my CPU on its side, and I hardly ever have to adjust its position, because for me it tends to slide forward and at my gaming area there's no where for it to slide because it's against the wall. The sliding issue, for me, is so insignificant I didn't even remove a star for it. I'm also sure there's options for getting something with grip to keep it in place like a Rug Gripper, though that might look unsightly because the mat is crystal clear. In any case, the sliding is a not really bothersome for me but even if it was it is probably resolved without too much effort and some ingenuity. I paid twice as much per mat for these over the cheap ones that utterly failed and I'd absolutely do it again, because these actually work and their only issue is easily overlooked for me. Also to note I have both the standard size (for my gaming area) and the larger size (for my office area where I need a bit more rolling room). Both mats are identical in function and quality.

Great product...for a while
Like many others, during the COVID lockdown I began working remotely and needed to build a home office. The kids are all grown and moved out on their own now, so we turned our daughter's room into an office/spare bedroom. We redeorated, painted and got new carpeting. I was looking for a carpet protector but didn't want one of those thin plastic carpet protectors with the spikes on the bottom - been there, done that, and it seems like those get discolored, crack easily and don't last long. I saw this one and it looked thick enough. It had overall great reviews and the description said it was more durable than tempered glass and can withstand up to 1200 pounds of pressure. I'm not a small man, but nowhere even remotely close to 1200 pounds! So I bought one, and it was really great! It was crystal clear, the carpet looked great underneath, and my chair rolled on it perfectly. It didn't seem to scuff with my chair rollers and I was very happy with it. One thing I found was it did tend to move around a bit on the carpet - not really noticeably while sitting on it, but over the course of a few hours I would look and it has moved away from the desk a couple inches. I just moved it back in place and it didn't bother me. One day I was sitting down and dropped something on the floor and bent down to pick it up and I heard a sound like something had snapped. I looked around and didn't see anything and didn't think much about it. A bit later I heard it again and that's when I saw a small crack developing in the floor protector. It had been about 6 months since I bought it so I was not able to return it to Amazon. I tried to contact the seller since the product description said it came with a 12 month warranty, but I could not find the contact information for the seller. I called Amazon and they agreed to let me return it after all and I ordered a new one. Same experience - it worked well and everything was fine...again for about 6 months. The floor protector cracked again, and this time it was much more noticeable. I decided just to keep it because the cracks didn't seem to affect the chair rolling on it and I didn't want the hassle of trying to return it again, especially since when I returned the first one I had to pack it in cardboard before the UPS store would send it, since this is solid and doesn't fold up. Well, the cracks over the past couple weeks have gotten worse so I'm going to have to find something else. Overall it seems like most people have had great experiences with this product, and so did I for a while. Too bad it didn't last for as long as I hoped.

Excellent chair mat- especially helpful for fluffy carpets
Very pleased with these heavy duty chair mats. Description says they are 1/5 inch thick, but they seem (perform) thicker. If you have had issues with chair mats on top if plush(er) carpets, this should be the solution, and they hold up perfectly under a 270lb person in an office chair on our "short shag" carpet. I ordered 2 to support 2 chairs under a long crafting table. They arrived in a single flat box. The box was pretty beat up in shipment, but the mats had protective film on both sides and were in a (thin) protective bag. Both mats were in excellent condition, despite the rough treatment the box took. The protective film was easily removed (no adhesive, just thick cling plastic). Since these are so thick AND they were shipped flat, there was no issue with having to unroll or flatten the mats. You could not roll this mat anyway- they are very nice rectangle sheets of thick, flat plexiglass. Some other reviews mentioned the mat tends to move during use, and I ran into a bit of that as well. I placed some 'grippy" material underneath and that helped tremendously (but not completely). I feel that is a minor issue compared to the other qualities (hard, flat, supportive, works on thicker carpet, etc). If it ever becomes and issue, I will use a set of "carpet keepers" to keep it totally motionless. Like I said, I am very happy with this purchase.

Huge Upgrade for Home Office
We ordered the two-pack (47” x 59” x 1/5”) and have been really happy with them. The chairs slide so smoothly now that it took a couple of days to adjust to not having to push so hard just to move around. They’re crystal clear and look exactly as described - the quality is excellent. The only issue we had was that they slid around a bit on the carpet since there’s no grip underneath, but we put a few small pieces of clear double-sided nano mounting tape under a couple corners and that solved the problem completely. Unexpected bonus: they stay cool to the touch, which our cats have definitely appreciated during the recent hot weather.

Sturdy, smooth chair mat
This is a great chair mat - it rolls smoothly, is durable, and sturdy for my plus-size frame. It came well-packaged and was easy to install. Since we installed it over carpet and didn't want it to slide, we added screws into the floor at two corners. 10/10 would recommend doing that.

Great, except you will have to chase the matt around the room every week. It moves a lot.
This clear protector is over 1/4" thick. I am 260# and the surface does not deflect much as I slide around on a chair. The only major problem is the protector moves all over the rug. In one week, it will move over a foot in one direction or another. I am thinking of screwing it to the floor. There is no odor. I have tripped on it once but it is over a 1/4" thick. Very clear so far. The rollers do not seem to mark the surface either. So all good, if you don't mind repositioning it once a week. Otherwise, I regret purchasing it. However, the other matts are very soft and flimsy.

Just what I needed
I've read a lot of the negative reviews (few of them compared to positive, but there are still plenty) and none of the points much matter to me. To address my own view of several of them: 1. It slides around on carpet. Well, it doesn't for me. I thought it MIGHT because it does in fact have nothing to grip carpet, but I put it down several days ago, put my chair on it, and it hasn't mover a fraction of an inch. Maybe it's my carpet, or maybe my 250lb or so weight that spends a lot of time on my computer chair on the mat, but whatever, it's just not been a problem for me. 2. It gets scratched up. Well, yes, it already has some, but I just don't care. Doesn't matter to me. It could be opaque for all I care. Heck, I want it primarily to make my chair roll easier as it's almost impossible to roll on my carpet, and secondarily to protect the carpet, and it works great for both. I really don't much care what it looks like. 3. It's opaque white not clear as listed - no, it is CLEAR. I actually had it down and was using it thinking it was opaque which, as I said above, would still be fine with me, until I saw the video on one of the reviews and realized I still had a plastic sheet on one side. It adheres VERY tightly and isn't clearly even there. You have to dig at a corner with a finger nail or something to just loosen it enough to even know it exists, then you can pull it off. And the instructions, printed on the much easier to remove and more obvious plastic on the OTHER side, are not very clear about that [pun somewhat intended.] 4. "It's just a sheet of plexiglass." Um, yeah, so? I guess the suggestion is that you could buy a sheet from .. where, who sells it cut to size? No idea. But if you found it you could. Well, ok. If you want to go researching where to buy that, ordering it cut to size, and either go get it or pay for delivery, because it's a little cheaper, more power to you. What would that cost, twenty bucks? I've no idea, but let's say 20. It's worth the extra 38 to me to just order it at 3 AM with a tumbler of scotch in hand and have it magically appear at my door a couple days later. 5. Sharp edges. Well, true. And if you go barefoot in the room where you have it that might be an issue. I never, ever, do that so again, I just don't care. Now it's not perfect, and I debated whether to give four or five stars but decided the minor quibbles I have were not worth down-rating by one star. Mainly, it's TOO smooth on top and the chair rolls too easily. I got used to it, but it feels a bit like sitting your chair on ice. I think it would be better with some texture added to the top, or maybe to both sides so the bottom would grip carpet better for those who have that issue. But then it wouldn't be so clear as some of you want. OTOH, some texture would prevent scratching so badly or scratches that do happen from showing as much. It would probably cost more though. 2. It could be a little larger. But it is the size it says it is so you can't really complain about that, and it's about the size of most chair mats and a bit larger than many, especially counting the fact it's a rectangle instead of having the "tongue" protrusion on the front that most do. Bottom line is that you are getting a thick, fairly heavy piece of plexiglass sized for a chair mat that will protect your carpet and let your chair roll easily and NOT (probably, I have only had it a few days) crack into pieces in a year or two like the vinyl ones, and I paid nearly this much for the last three or so of those I bought at a local office store. That's just what I needed and what I got. Very happy with the purchase. EDIT: After it apparently compacted the carpet some more it does slide around, but I don't care. I position it once a day or so and it's good. I may try some double sided tape but I haven't been in a hurry to even bother. It still helps my chair roll effortlessly and protects my carpet AND doens't break into pieces like all the other mats. Still happy with it.
