This is a large and well built product and should be adequate for most owls. **Q: How high does this need to be hung in a tree?** A: The recommendation was 12-15 feet. We have ours at 12 feet and it looks like someone has begun to build a nest in it. Hopefully that will be our barred owl, just in time for the beginning of nesting season which begins in March for most of the eastern U.S. **Q: Any suggestions for keeping squirrels from moving in?** A: Extending the roof out another 5-6 inches, I heard that's one way to keep squirrels from moving into bird house. Metal guards won't work on a whole with such a big opening, but they do work with the smaller ones especially the blue bird boxes. ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐ Not as advertised. *by A***R on October 26, 2023* This owl box is a nice owl box but, it is not what was advertised at all. The picture and description made it seem like the entire box was made out of cedar. Secondly the size of the box is not what was advertised. Actual size is 12.5x13.5x24 not 17.74x13.5x24 that was advertised. Would definitely buy their products again! ### ⭐⭐⭐ not real wood *by C***X on July 15, 2019* In the photo the house shown is cedar the one I received is plywood, and I was not sure if pressure treated?
