Follow the instructions, IT WORKS!
All I can say is WOW. This thing is amazing! I'm not a professional, just a DIYer like many other people so my review is based on that. Just follow the instructions and watch the videos that the app points you to. Don't be a "who reads manuals" person. The app holds your hand through the entire process unless you select the "Don't show me this" option when it prompts you. When the app starts up, it will walk you through what kind of studs and walls you have, then give you the options you want to use. The device attaches to the phone using a sticky pad which can be cleaned with water if you get gunk on it. It comes with 2 short cables, 1 USB C and 1 micro USB (Sorry iPhone users). You put your phone on the sticky part, plug it in to your phone, and you're off to the races. It doesn't come with a carrying case of any kind, so I recommend keeping the plastic covering you take off the sticky pad to cover it again when you take your phone off. Like any advanced stud finder, you have to calibrate the device. This consists of moving the device against the wall in large circular motion. It willy notify you when its ready. Then you can use pan or advanced mode, but I recommend panning first, then going to advanced mode. It seemed more accurate that way, plus the app mildly asks you to pan first. The pan has you slide the phone across the wall for whatever distance you want while showing you an image of what it finds. The advanced view is kind of like a radar where you move it across the wall and when it detects a stud it will show it to you in a color. This is the best mode for finding the center of the stud and confirming its a stud and not a PVC pipe or electrical line (more info below). The screen will actually display text with"Stud" or "Pipe/Wire" when in advanced mode to help identify what you're looking at. My quick short story: Just moved in, drywall on wood studs. Wanted to wall mount my 65" TV. Wall is against bathroom. Used $10 stud finder with blinky lights. 1 stud found, the other stud was "found" but when drilled it went into air. Used $50 stud finder with LCD screen that has electrical, wood, and metal settings. Found the same first stud, couldn't find the second again. Enter Walabot: Found both studs (spaced 18 inches). Also found an electrical line next to the right stud and a PVC pipe that was directly to the RIGHT of the left stud. To make matters worse, both previous stud finders found the "center" more to the right of the single stud they found. 1/4" more to the right and I would have had a very expensive plumber bill thanks to that PVC pipe. The Walabot identified the true center of the stud consistently. I confirmed my findings with an endoscope camera thanks to the first air hole I drilled with the regular stud finder (and which prompted me to buy the Walabot). At the time of purchase this was about $60, and with the amount of money I saved by not butchering that PVC pipe, I HIGHLY recommend it. The app is extremely easy to use and the learning curve is small and well guided. The only bad thing I can think of is that it doesn't come with any kind of carrying case. They have a listing for a more premium carrying case, but even just a silk bag would have been better than nothing. Just remember to save the clear hard film that you take off the sticky pad if you don't have a case for it, as you can stick that back on it to protect it from dirt when you put it away. I just put mine back in the box with that hard film.

This thing Actually Works !!!!
I'm a handyman and general DIY guy and I've gone from stud finder to stud finder over the years just trying to find the best one and when I saw the advertisement for Walabot I thought would be absolutely awesome if it actually worked as advertised.... and guess what? .. It absolutely does!!! I was very pleasantly surprised to actually be holding the best stud and everything else finder on the market. I have a wall in my basement that I can see both sides of. The finished side & the raw side with the studs and wires, so I knew exactly where everything was located as I slid my Walabot along the finished side and guess who else knew where every stud & wire was located?... Yes my Walabot knew too. So I have to say, I will really love using my Walabot, it will save me a lot of time & money with my future installations ... I only have one problem... what am I gonna do with all my other crappy stud finders because the only one coming with me on all my jobs is my new Walabot 😁 Thanks guys & gals at Walabot you're awesome !

Very close to being the best wall scanner
Wall scanners, or stud finders have always been a nuisance to use. I have three other scanners in a drawer in my toolbox. They are generally not highly accurate, and a general nuisance to use. The Walabot DIY Plus is one that definitely shows promise. I love the fact that the Walabot shows wooden studs, metal studs and pipes / wires. That generally works pretty well, but it sure would be nice if it actually let you know whether it was a pipe or a live wire. The adhesive rubbery disk that attaches the Walabot to the phone is really a bad idea. It does not quite like to stick to a phone case very well, so it can end up being very wobbly. It sure would be nice to have some sort of magnet on the back of the Walabot and a stick-on metal plate to go on the back of the phone, kind of like some of the phone holders made for cars. The other issue that you can see looking at the back of my unit is how easily the strips are scratched up. Any kind of textured wall will absolutely destroy them in minutes. What you see on my units was caused by about 5 minutes of use. I also tried this on my slab floor just to see what it detects. The problem is that it does not differentiate between pipes and rebar, so I am not sure how much good that would actually do. The expert mode is a mystery to me, maybe because I am no expert. Displaying blobs does not really help me. Hopefully the Walabot people will come out with a solution to the phone attachment problem and offer it to existing customers. As for the app, it would be nice if it were easier to find the exit when you are done using it.

It's OK - still learning how to use it
So far, the Walabot DIY PLUS has just been OK. I'm still getting the hang of it, but it's been having trouble identifying wood beams through some simple thin drywall. The screen will flicker back and forth between identifying wood and metal on the screen so I re-calibrate the scanner every time I remove the scanner from the wall and it seems to be ok. It's a neat little tool but it does need some work to make it reliable and I wouldn't replace my regular old stud finder just yet. The pads on the back should be a bit thicker as it tends to scratch the plaster when I recalibrate in a circular motion. It's also a bit noisy when you calibrate as the plastic echoes through the wall so be sure to not use it if someone is on the other side of the wall resting. I'm hoping it can get better through some updates but I missed the return window and that's the main reason I haven't returned it as it's a bit pricy for what you get out of it. Give it a shot, your experience may vary.

Did not heed the other reviews
Ignoring the warnings from other reviews I purchased anyway. This product functions well. I was able to detect studs accurately. I hate traditional stud finders so this was a welcomed changed. The one problem that causes me to rate this 1 star is the one problem that makes me not be able to use the product. The gel pad that comes with it will not stick to the device and therefore my phone will not stay adhered to it. I had read the other reviews about this issue, but I use similar gel pads around my house and they work great so I dismissed the reviews and thought they had to be doing something wrong. I got my Walabot and was excited to try it out. Got it all set up and stuck my phone to it. Seemed like it stuck well so I was happy and went to test. After calibrating I then went to detect a stud.... my phone came loose. "Oh no, I should have cleaned the back of my case before sticking it to it" was my first thought. Nope, It came loose from the Walabot. I tried cleaning its surface with alcohol wipes but nothing seems to make it want to stay attached. It seems to stem from the finish they have on their case. It is not smooth and therefore the gel pad doesn't want to stick well. I contacted support and they suggested washing the pad or purchasing the Walabot Grips they sell for $13 (which, btw they have for a wide range of phones apparently but if you have a case I assume you would have to remove it before using the Grips). So what they are telling me is "We made the grips because we know the gel pads don't work but we want you to buy them to give us more money"... No thanks. I am not paying to fix your defect. You should have just made the circle on the back smooth to allow the gel pad to stick. QA fail. At least I can return it I guess. A simple solution would be to offer unhappy customers a smooth, permanently attaching disc, to place on the back so the gel pad can properly adhere. I do have a large phone (Pixel 4 XL) so maybe the weight/size has something to do with it but, as is, I can not use the device without risk of dropping my phone. I understand they can not accommodate for every phone out there but this issue is with their device and the gel pad.

Perfect for people who are not confident in where they are drilling.
I'm only now starting my journey down the road of becoming a little bit handy. I'm a first time home owner and I'm the type of person who is constantly worried about messing up my wall and what is behind it. This makes it so hard for me to just build up enough courage to simply drill into the dry wall. This Stud finder gives me the confidence to drill. I set up several Floating shelves my kitchen around pipes and electrical, a shower curtain, a 75" TV and more. The fact that I know roughly where electrical or Metal pipes are really helps me when setting drywall anchors and Choosing where to mount/Hang things. I've seen a lot of reviews about this being too clunky for an actual fast work flow for professionals. I would agree with this 100% if I was a contractor but I'm not. I'm a normal guy who is still learning but wants to minimize the damage I do to my new home. I recommend buying small Magnets to help you once you find a stud with this stud finder. I then Slide the small magnet up the wall so that it get stuck onto drywall nails. I do at least 2 so i know exactly where the center of the stud is and where I should drill. My only critiques. 1. The sticky adhesive is kind of weird. I'd prefer the phone go into a sleeve or something. 2. It would be nice if they designed a custom wire for connecting the device to the phone. Currently its just a normal USBC cable but it gets snagged on the texture of the wall and it feels annoying while you are sliding the stud finder around a painted and textured wall. 3. The sliding pads on the face of the stud finder are very sharp. After using it and sliding it around I see a bunch of white flakes from it dragging across the wall. If the pads where slightly curved and beveled instead of having pointy 90 degree angles, it would really help to prevent the flakes being pulled off the wall. (its not enough to notice on the wall.)

It's Been Great
I love this thing. So far for what I have needed it's been a great little tool for around the house. It was easy to setup and had been easy to use. I have only used it a couple of times, including the PAN mode and it's worked for me as advertised. My wife has even used it and she likes it. Makes it real easy to find studs as that's all I have used it for so far but in going along the walls, I have found where it detected pipes and wires where I knew they were so it appears to be pretty accurate as well. I have read some of the other reviews and TBH I am not a professional or a contractor but I honestly don't think I would use this in a professional setting as it's a little bulky to use but then again, in a professional setting I don't think I would be using anything that hooks up to my phone. It would be extremely difficult to use this a whole working day without having to charge your phone and it would also cut in on the other uses folks use their phones for. Not very efficient in that regard. To use as a quick tool to find a quick stud or something yes. It's a great tool for Johnny or Jenny DIY'er though as it gives a great visual. IMO this is worth it and a great tool for the home and you are getting exactly what is advertised for the money. I will be buying another one.

Works very well in many types of home walls.
I’m an advanced DIYer with 2 homes. Both houses are over 60 years old and have & continue to go thru lots of updates & renovations. And as one can expect, I’ve always used a “stud finder” to help me determine how the walls are put together. I’ve recently used the Walabot imager to install a set of floor outlets and hang some corner shelves. What I’ve found is: The good: • The product works very well. This is especially true if the wall has standard wood studs supporting drywall. • The electrical wires detection is exceptional and also works when an electrical circuit is embedded with a wooden beam covered with ¾” wood facing. Improvement areas: • Getting to the app area to start a scan of the wall takes many menus/button pushes. Perhaps a way to streamline this is go the prior settings as an option. • Having settings for other common wall coverings such as wood paneling, vinyl paneling, wood strips, etc. would be really useful. I played with the “expert” mode setting for an insight into a wall with ¼” wood strips over drywall. The screen shots seemed to change showing where I knew stubs were; yet I could not determine a wooden stud edge. It would be a GREAT upgrade if you could determine where the studs were in other types of walls. Overall, I’m happy with the purchase and would definitely buy this product if needed.

Excellent Product. Get it.
I'm a carpenter, I've never had any luck with stud finders of any kind. Always used the old school knock on the wall. My first application of the walabot diy plus, was on a lathe and plaster, It was amazing. Found the studs right away. Tried it on concrete, and standard drywall too; All with exellent results. Easy setup, excellent customer service. Will recommend to anyone who needs to find studs, metal studs, electrical, and plumbing.
