Great value if you know what you're getting
This is my 3rd Homak Gun Cabinet so I have lots of experience with this brand. First thing you should ask yourself, are locks to keep honest people honest? Or should they keep bad guys out. If you are in the first camp, this is a great cabinet. It's perfect for keeping kids in the house safe without all the expense and weight of a real safe. You should know the 12 gun safe is a great 10 gun safe but a crappy 12 gun safe, unless you have only thin leverguns. I like to leave two holes between each barrel holder making 10 rifle fit perfect. The "12 gun" safe is good for rifles with scopes, pistol grips or large magazines. It is slower getting them in and out though. You need to be careful not to bang the cubbie sections or other guns when trying to remove guns from the back. The smaller cabinets lay the rifles along the back making getting them out much easier. When it comes to putting it together, there's a few things you should know. First, you'll want to make some spacers out of scrap wood if you have molding around your walls. If you aren't bolting to studs, use some good drywall anchors. Second, the foam it comes with is very big and hard to apply. It's cheap but does it's job well. PRO TIP! Cut the foam into smaller more manageable sections before you apply it. DO NOT try to stick on one giant piece. The adhesive is very unforgiving. You will screw it up. You have been warned! Third, the rails that come with it has VERY WEAK adhesive. It will not stick.PRO TIP! Apply a small bead of super glue to the rail backing. This sticks to the foam very well. It will be very sturdy if you use super glue. BONUS PRO TIP! If you have some branch clippers in the garage, use it to trim the rail. Measure twice, cut once. The branch cutters do a great job. Lastly, the small cubbie holes are 8"x9". They can hold two small handguns each. PRO TIP! If you have a lazy fat wife, steal her yoga mat. First make a template with paper then cut the yoga mat to size. They will sit in the cubbie holes very well, but if you feel the need apply super glue. These may not be perfect cabinets but for the price they are an excellent value.

Great safe! I love the amount of room provided
Great safe! I love the amount of room provided. The left site is great for storing handguns, ammo, misc parts, etc. The right side is perfect for long guns. In my photo I did a crap job of putting up the foam and didn't bother with the gun rack plastic pieces. Though it did come with it. The size of the safe is excellent, it feels extremely sturdy, and the 4 locks (two per door) while a bit annoying does give you an added sense of security regardless of how false that sense is. I'm confident in using the safe to protect the weapons against small children. It's heavy enough that it won't be easily carried out of your home, does have holes and small bolts if you wish to mount it studs in the wall. You could easily fit 9 handguns on the left side, 3 per shelf. Maybe more. Long guns, I suspect you could fit 4. It's a great safe definitely worth the money. Well built. My last gun cabinet was thin metal (good enough for kids) but I broke the key in the lock, and had to break it open. I used a hammer, flat head, and bolt cutters to cut through the metal and it was fairly easy. This feels much thicker and since it uses the round keys, I feel as though breaking into this unit would be much more complicated. I would recommend this for anyone wishing to secure firearms from kids or average thieves. Obviously nothing but a true safe is foolproof, but this is close enough.

HOMAK HS30003630 12-Gun Security Cabinet, Silver Vein I needed a good way to secure my firearms from the kids and unwelcome eyes. This cabinet seamed to have everything I had on the must list. The cabinet arrived quickly and was in great packaging. The directions provided with the item were not as inclusive as some may want but honistly putting rifles in a box doesnt require must direction. The mounting options for the barrel rests are great. You can adjust the barrel rests to fit any number of rifle lengths and combinations. I did have to put some effort into setting everything up inside the safe. I was happy to do this because it allows me to set things how I want and not to some standardised pattern someone decided would work for all guns. The effort paid off because all of my rifles are well positioned and safe from damage. The key points are below. Well made steel cabniet, welds are clean and consistant. Plenty of protective material provided to line the cabniet to prevent scratching your rifle. Storage area covers more than enough room for ammuntion the avarage shooter would have on hand. Shelving is solid and doesnt interfear with the placememt of rifles. The overal look of the cabniet is great. Bottom line: This is a great product that should more than meet the needs of weapon storage for most shooters. The price is unbeatable thants to Amazon's free shipping. I have recomended this cabinet to all my shooting buddies.

Sturdy cabinet for the price!
At first, I was a little hesitant about buying this cabinet because of the reviews. But the price was good ($131.00 & free shipping) So I decided to get it. It came well packaged with extra cardboard on the corners (My big concern would be that it would be damaged in shipping) It was fully assembled which was nice considering some of the other cabinets you have to assemble. It is a very sturdy cabinet with a good size front door that seems to be made well. It also came with 4 keys (All the same) Mine did have an owner's manual included, but it wasn't too specific about how to put the accessories in place, so you just have to use common sense & measure your guns before you start to attach things. The biggest problem I noticed with all the reviews on all gun cabinets was the adhesive-backed foam that you have to put in place. For the bottom piece, I just left the backing on it & tucked it into place. For the back piece, I measured what I needed, cut it to size & then took a razor blade & ruler & scored the backing paper about 2 inches from the top edge. I then stuffed it into place & peeled off the part that I scored, & it worked great! The rack was 4 adhesive-backed plastic sections that could lock together (Probably for the wider cabinets) so you could place them at different height levels depending on the length of your guns. The little plastic cups that clip onto the inside of the front door are okay, but might get in the way when closing the door. The top shelf is a joke (Like the other reviewer said) but just held in place by 4 screws & nuts. I just took the shelf out, & measured & made my own shelf out of a small thin piece of plywood & some 1 inch "L" brackets. I mounted the brackets on the board to line up with the existing holes on the cabinet & it worked perfect! Now I have a full size shelf on top, instead of the dinky little one that they had. Also. You need to mount this cabinet to the wall because of the weight of the front door when you open it, or it might tip forwards on you. (The mounting screws are included with the cabinet) A couple of final notes. These cabinets are just for security, not safes. They're great for locking up your guns & providing basic security, for the price. If you want total theft prevention & can afford it, get a safe. Also, the capacity of these cabinets is deceptive. They will hold the number of guns they claim, provided they are your bare-basic gun, without any accessories. Make sure you buy a cabinet that is deep enough to hold your guns with scopes, & any other accessory. I was BARELY able to fit my 3 long guns into this cabinet (A .22 rifle, a 12 ga. shotgun, & my AR-15 rifle across the front) So if you have extra space for a cabinet, buy a bigger one!

Great product review
This product came just as shown. We have used it now for years and it is held up wonderfully. Nice sturdy product. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a safe place to keep things with not alot of space to put one ... holds my more than I expected.

Fine cabinet, as I expected it
Exactly as I expected it, and I actually purchased a second one. Shipped in a cardboard box within another cardboard box (with styrofoam packing in-between), contents arrived with not a scratch, two keys in a plastic envelope attached to the inner box. I like the dual-lock system with bars at the corners, which gives the locked door a sturdy feel (noting that it's a cabinet, not a safe). I suppose the internal "shelf" across the top is OK, providing some structural support but not a whole lot of functionality. There is a gap behind the shelf that allows space for really long barrels (longer than anything I have), so the actual shelf is pretty narrow. Definitely not much room for storage on it, but nicer to have than not. There are only two real downsides worth mentioning from my perspective, both of which were known to me at purchase: 1) the cabinet really is top-heavy and needs to be secured to a wall; and 2) I don't particularly care for the internal, stick-on foam and plastic barrel rests (I'll be using plywood instead).

Lock Jammed
This cabinet is pretty good, except that one of the locks did not turn easily from the start. One day it jammed and would not turn. After much jiggling and tapping, I finally got it to open (I had to turn the key very forcefully to do this). That at least allowed me to get the door open, so that I could remove the lock and tinker with it. It would work OK a few times and then jam again. Finally I dumped a lot of graphite into the lock, tapped it, and shook the stuff out. A little piece of metal that looked a lot like part of a lock pin and quite a few tiny pieces of broken metal came out along with the graphite. After few more "graphite treatments" the lock stopped jamming, so I re-installed it, and so far, so good. The same thing happened with one lock of an old Homak cabinet after about 20 years, so I was surprised to encounter this problem in the first 2 weeks. If the lock had remained jammed, I would have had to call a locksmith. As for shipping, it was packed very well and arrived undamaged. The cabinet was locked and the keys were in a little plastic bag that was a little hard to find in all of the packing material. Four heavy lag bolts were also in the bag. It was easy to bolt down and cannot be easily removed once it is. The latching mechanisms are on 2 separate locks and each connects to 2 separate parts of the inside of the cabinet when locked. The latch for the upper lock ties into the left side with a large oval-shaped piece of metal and into the top of the door opening with a flattened rod. The lower lock ties into the left side and bottom with the same types of mechanisms, so the door is held shut on 4 points on the left and the concealed hinges on the right. This is a much more secure system than my old Homak case. Yes, the top shelf is not well placed, and I should have removed it, but I didn't and can't now that I have bolted in the cabinet. Here is a tip, hang your pistol rugs from S-hooks dangling from the lip at the back of this shelf and from the slots in the door (no that's not what jammed the lock, but you should be careful of that) and you will have lots of room for them. The cabinet also came with 2 small plastic boxes that fit into slots on the inside of the door, but they can interfere with placement of stuff in the cabinet and closing of the door. I will use them for something else. There are plastic pieces which serve as barrel holders, and they fit into a plastic strip which is secured by that notorious reviewer-hated stick-um. I used it there, and it turned out OK. There is foam padding for the floor and for the back of the cabinet. I used double-stick tape on the peel off sheet (instead of peeling it off) to avoid the stick-um problems encountered by other reviewers. You can get a lot of stuff in this cabinet if you set it up properly. But can you be sure you can get it out again? By the way, Homak has a website, from which you can order replacement locks and keys.

Outstanding!
Cabinet arived quick and with no damage at all. Homak packages these up very well...shipped all the way from PA to CA. Bolted to the wall, this sets up nicely for gun/ammo storage. Mounting the rifle rests was a piece of cake, as well as the padding. I placed padding on the floor and then cut a piece of carpet to go on top of that...very nice. I also lined the inside of the door and inside on cabinets walls with industrial strength Velcro, making additional accessory hanging an option. Locks work great...came with 2 keys. As well, added 2 horizontal LED tap lights for internal lighting. Overall, I was very happy with this product. No complaints and well worth the price. For additional protection, place your cabinet in a lockable room...now guns are double locked. You really need to spend a fortune if you want a safe that can truly withstand the determined thief, and as for fire protection...if you are not home when your house is burning down, then anything in the safe is toast...it will melt! My buddy had a very high end safe during the Southern CA wildfires, and the safe and all contents literally melted into nothing!! It was a $5,000.00 safe!! Save some $$ and go with what fits your budget.
