Seems to work great on knives and scissors both. I intend to sharpen everything in the house! Sure is easier than using a whetstone. Even works on a small bladed pair of surgical scissors. You can't get it wrong because the edge is preset and there are little pictures showing which slot is for knives and which is for scissors. I sharpened two sets of scissors and I got noticeable improvement. So for that alone it's worth it if you do a bit of cutting. The only downside is, if you have left handed scissors, you'll have to take them apart to run it through this. The design of this doesn't allow for using it in either direction, but I imagine that's true for any hand held sharpener.
