Amazon Basics 8 Sheet High Security Micro Cut Shredder with Pullout Basket, Black

This is a great shredder. It was highly reviewed on NY Times Wirecutter and I can definitely see why. Cuts paper into tiny pellet sized bits. No way anyone can find your personal info anywhere. Great features, for example it turns off when bin is full so you won't overfill and burn it out, it is much quieter than our old shredder and I can remove the shredded paper cannister easily from the front to empty. I don't wheel the base around, so that feature isn't really useful to me, but I really like that the shredded paper cannister is easily removed and reinstalled from the front. I've had it a bit over a month and have put it through its paces doing my annual file clearing. I always made sure to only run 1 bin full of shredding and then let it rest for at least 1/2 hour. Rated as 8 sheet shredder, but I found that heavier weight paper needs to be limited to 4 pieces at a time. Not a deal breaker for me, as it does such a good job overall. Went through a ton of paper shredding and it is still going strong. Highly recommend.

I live in a large apartment building and gotten into the bad habit of tossing my junk mail directly into my building's paper recycling bin. After a fraud attempt a few months back, I smartened up and decided to be a little more careful with what I was discarding. I wasn't thrilled about bringing a shredder into my already-small apartment, but this thing is so compact that I hide it behind a chair in my living room. And let me tell you, shredding has become an absolutely joy. This thing works perfectly and makes quick work of all my junk mail and sensitive documents. I've also shredded credit cards with no problem. Shredding is one of my favorite parts of the day and, might I say, an unexpected stress reliever. I think it actually also helps me stay more on top of my mail as I look forward to figuring out what I can feed this machine. As far as upkeep, I empty it about every two weeks. The micro-cut shreds are also handy to have around if you need any packing cushion or if you have trash that's getting a little stinky. The shreds themselves can be a little dusty and sometimes end up under the bottom of the bin, but it's not a big deal to clean up. This shredder is an excellent product for the price point!

Just got it and am very happy with the performance so far. This machine is not silent but it is not too loud either. The noise level is within tolerance. I did a lot of research before buying this as I wanted a Shredder that wouldn't die on me very quickly and this one got ok reviews. It's a little more than I wanted to pay, but I went for it due to the size and type of shredder it is said to be. I wanted to shred my cards safely and I wanted something that could handle CDs too. The best thing about this shredder is the size of the paper when it is cut ... This really does a good JOB! The only bad thing about the design is that the draw is not easy to open. There is nothing to help you open it, so if you don't have fingernails or you have very soft nails, this will be a pain. Look at the photo of the side view. But also observe the photo of the papers I have already shredded with this thing... It's a monster of a shredder, I LOVE IT!! I also have the safety feature that it has. Seriously glad I bought this. UPDATE, I bought this over a year ago and it gets used almost every day in my house, for mail, old school papers from my daughter, scrap papers from toddlers, etc. This is a very good machine.

This lil Shredder Does ITS job n theN some.I shredded over 600 plus pages in two days..n it's worked like..Freak'n office shredder! No glitched.no " Sticking" ..I did only up to three pages..as I did not want to pushy luck..!! my last ONE cost over $60 n was p.o.s(Piece of crap) kept Jamming on Single PCs OF paper!!! Truly a Joke!! And the actually teeth started to..chip..I complained and yeS..Amazon..as always Did right thing..but HAD no Shredder for awhile!! And loads to shredd!!! So waited 4 deal n took chance n wow..not at all..sorry! Thee Price was amazing..and This one has wheels! N pull out basket!!! Love those features!!! Does what its supposed to do. No complaints, although the 8 sheet designation might be a bit of a stretch. I’ve done 4 or 5 sheets and the machine slows down quite a lot. It’s struggling. It’s likely that 8 can be done, but that seems to put a lot of stress on the parts. I try to keep it in the 1-3 range. The view window is nice, but it’s well below the max fill limit of the basket. And the cutter will stop once the sensor detects paper in close proximity to the base unit. So the window doesn’t seem worth the encroachment into the basket - it’s not flush with the basket, but intrudes a bit with hard right angles. At a 4 gallon capacity, the basket fills up quick so every little bit of space is valuable. The window also snags light weight shredder bags. The bags are not necessary, but they do keep down the mess when emptying. But since the bags are just for paper, they’re extremely lightweight. Remove carefully since the basket is not smooth.

Actually bought this a few years ago, but it's doing well. Multiple sheets will make it work harder, one or two sheets at a time works better, and it eats discs like paper in the slot provided for shredding discs. Get the lubricating sheets to run through it ever 500 sheets or so, keeps it operating smoothly.

I bought the 8-sheet model about a year and a half ago for about $75. It makes your sheets of paper into tiny little bits. The bits are really small, most pieces have one or two letters on them at most. I doubt even CSI would be able to reassemble my secret documents. It's a huge improvement over my old strip shredder. It'll do 8 sheets at a time but it doesn't seem happy about it. I usually keep it to 2-4, and feed more in as needed. It's pretty small (small office garbage can sized). The wheels are nice if you ever need to give it a nudge. The bin holds a great deal of paper, and it has a window on it so it's easy to tell when it's getting full. Once it is full, the shredder will stop working until you empty it. But it's best to empty it before it gets completely full, otherwise the contents tend to spill out everywhere. In addition to single sheets of paper, it will also shred thin cardboard pretty well (shredded cardboard makes a great shipping material). Problems? Not really. It generates a lot of dust, but I'm sure that's true of all shredders. It could be a bit quieter, but it's not bad. I'm sure the more powerful models are better, faster, maybe even quieter. But right after I got this, I shredded about 5 bags' worth of random bills, financial statements, top secret documents, manifestos, and master plans that had been hanging around. It took a while but it did the job. I'm not sure you can get excited about something like a shredder, but this one is pretty good.

It was time to get another paper shredder - I was tired of having to tote what needed to be shredded from my upstairs office to the shredder downstairs and I was also about to engage in a long overdue purge of 40 years of records no longer useful. After a great deal of comparison on-line shopping, I chose the Amazon Basics cross cut shredder. Price was a factor and the Amazon unit’s price was comparable to similar others. In the end, it came down to the size of the shred. Many brands calling their products cross cut were actually cuts about the size of two joints of my pinky finger while the Amazon Basics was more like confetti. Smaller is better when it comes to destroying financial records, especially when you’ve suffered through an identity theft, a nightmare that is forever remembered. This shredder is very well built, the cutting assembly is extremely heavy and will run up to 30 minutes before needing a cooling off period. It has a pull-out bin, a must have for me, as it is so much easier to empty without the need to remove a heavy cutting assembly. It comes with wheels that are surprisingly easy to snap into place, but can be left off if mobility is not needed. I am very pleased with this Amazon Basics paper shredder and recommend it.
