I use the Feather razor with Feather blades and this combination produces a very smooth glide as it cuts, and does so in almost complete silence, while the C34 is outright noisy in comparison, giving much clearer audible feedback on whether the blade is working correctly or not. With the Feather, I almost exclusively rely on how the razor feels on my skin. Everyone has unique beard density, hair and skin thickness and skin moisture, depending on their age, and genetic back ground. This razor is very similar to a cartridge razor in terms of its mildness and convenience. So, if you're comfortable shaving with just warm water using a Gillette Fusion razor, you can do the same with this razor. **Q: Is this thing an adjustable??** A: Someone said yes, this is adjustable. Presuming you mean the blade angle. It is NOT. The wings that hold the blade down are intended to be closed fully. If you leave them in any position other than fully closed, the blade will "chatter" and the likelihood of a shave without cuts and at minimum a lot of irritation, is low to none. **Q: Is the head made up of plastic and steel?** A: Mine is all steel, stainless, I suspect. I thought stainless was non-magnetic, but a small magnet attracts every metal part on this razor. Good. It won't rust (much). My razor does not have a "butterfly closure" head. The head must be completely dismantled to change or reposition the blade. Because the blade is not automatically "located" by the pins, I must loosely reassemble the razor to center the blade. This is simple. With the head slightly loosened, the blade can be positioned to produce greater blade exposure on one side and less on the other. Anent cuts, I posted a while back on this razor. Ditto, ditto, ditto. For as long as double edge razors have been around, one would think some engineering improvements could be made and I think the AS-D2 does just that. As razors go, the AS-D2 has the thinnest, lightest head that I have found. Which is perfectly appropriate for a stainless steel razor. It does not have to be massive. Coupled with a solid stainless steel, well-knurled handle, it creates a balance point further back on the handle that makes the razor feel very maneuverable and light on your face. Seki has further configured the head to create a steeper natural shaving angle than other razors. I find that it complements my shaving because I tend to hold the razor at a steep angle as I shave the areas under my chin and on the point of my chin which is where I get most of my nicks and scrapes. The AS-D2 shaves smoothly at an angle that would dig aggressively into your face with other razors. That would seem to be why the AS-D2 is labeled as mild which I think is a misnomer. Compared to my Edwin Jagger DE89 the gap and blade exposure are comparable. I can get just as close a shave with the AS-D2 using the same blades but with more comfort. I think of it as my freedom razor because I feel free to pursue a good shave without constant care to avoid cutting myself. Comfort and closeness of shave are not mutually exclusive. As to price, I nearly paid $150 for a used AS-D2 on Ebay and then found I could get a brand new one right here on Amazon for $139. Too bad for the guy who outbid me! And many others have paid the list price of $180 and above. All of which is testament to to the value placed on a Feather razor. It is a personal decision on what value to place on a razor that is high in quality, works as good as it looks, and turns the daily battle of the beard into a pleasant ritual. Especially when you combine it with the art of lathering up with your favorite soap or cream. Obviously I think it is worth it. Addendum: Although most people would regard the well-knurled, stainless steel factory handle to be perfectly adequate, I happened to have an iKon OSS handle that is a bit larger (.520" vs .448" for the Feather) in diameter and about 3/16" longer. This top quality marine stainless steel handle is therefore a bit heavier and the extra diameter is easier to grasp with large hands like mine. It still has the balance that makes it feel light and maneuverable for shaving.
