The system includes activated-charcoal pre- and post-filters, as well as the signature reverse osmosis filter. It produces up to 25 gallons/95 liters of filtered water per day. An automatic shutoff helps promote peak efficiency and water conservation. Quick-change cartridges make regular maintenance as simple as changing a light bulb. The system and replacement filter cartridges are manufactured by 3M Purification Inc. (3MPITM), formerly CUNO Incorporated.The reverse osmosis process, in conjunction with activated charcoal pre- and post-filters, helps to reduce particulate and rust, chlorine taste and odor, and lead, arsenic, TDS, parasitic protozoan cysts, radium, barium, cadmium, chromium, copper, fluoride, selenium, and other chemical and biological contaminants in the water supply. The system can be used with chlorinated (municipal) or non-chlorinated (well) water. The high-flux, thin-film, reverse-osmosis membrane and charcoal filter cartridges are easily replaced. We've had this filter installed for almost a year, and this morning I noticed a weird flicker where the water exits the spigot. Upon closer inspection, this flicker turned out to be a large piece of chrome plating that was flaking off from the tip used on the output spigot. This tip is plastic, and is coated with a process known as PVD (physical vapor deposition) and I'm assuming in this case that the metal is chromium. This was an alarming development, as the last thing I want my child (or me) to be ingesting in our water is flaking chromium particles, yet this is what was happening. I removed the plastic tip with a vice and could clearly see the flaking metal on the inside. wiping the inside of this tip produced a whole bunch of metal sparkles that lead me to believe that this component was probably leaching flakes of metal into our water for many months.I'm an engineer myself, and I design products for a living, and this choice by the manufacturer to include this component (plastic with a metal plating finish), and further to not properly test this component for durability over the life of the filter system is alarming to say the least. It makes me wonder what other decisions were made in the design that drift from the primary goal of producing drinking water that is free from pollutants and toxic elements.I'd steer clear of this filter, or buy it and rip the plastic tip off the dispenser spigot before the plating starts peeling off. ### ⭐⭐ 2.0 out of 5 stars Had to have another ugly hole drilled in our beautiful granite island to accommodate CHROME (bleck *by M***Y on Reviewed in the United States on November 3, 2016* HUGE space taker under the sink & the faucet leaks, loudly back gurgles then dribbles all over counter.
