His Top 10s Island Girl; Someone Saved My Life Tonight; The Bitch Is Back; Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds , and Philadelphia Freedom join Levon; Tiny Dancer , and more! desertcart.com Elton John's second volume of hits covers the incredibly fertile hit-making period from late 1974 to early 1976, with a step or two outside that era. Some of his very greatest pop creations are here: "Philadelphia Freedom," "The Bitch Is Back," the giddy John Lennon-abetted cover of "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds," "Levon." If you love him, no doubt many of these songs are among the reasons. --Rickey Wright Review: His Hits Just Kept Coming - I was a Fan of Elton John's music since is inaural album. My all time favorite album of his was and still is Yellow Brick Road. However, his long list of top 40 releases demontrated his continuing staying power as a rock artist. At the moment, I can't think of any other British Invasion solo artist that had as many hits or that exhibited as much creativity as Elton John. That is unless you were to consider John Lennon, Paul Mc Cartney or George Harrison's collective contributions after the break up of the Beatles. This collection makes a great follow up to his Volume 1 Greatest Hits collection which includes Ctocidile Rock, my personal top 40 favorite of Elton John. On the Yellow Brick Road album, I like Love Lies Bleeding in My Hand and the lead track song is not included in either of his the Vol 1 or 2 Greatest Hits albums. Owning both volumes 1 and 2 means that you can hear them one at a time or play them back to back. Owning Yellow Brick Road means you will experince the album concept and mix of compositions that make it a great classic rock double album. Island Girl pops into my mind as a personal favorite on Volume 2 that is a must have for any Elton John fan as is, at least for me. Levon also included in Volume 2. Review: Good - On time and well oacked

Elton John’s Greatest Hits 2.
I have nearly every Elton John CD. I had his Greatest Hits vol. 1 and 3. I was missing his Greatest Hits, vol.2 so I decided to order it. I now have nearly every Elton John CD.

Don't take this guy lightly!
It's fashionable to dismiss Elton John as a lightweight. But if you agree that pop music is, for better or worse, the voice of our time, then it follows that EJ and lyricist Bernie Taupin are our collective Mozart. Within the strict confines of AM radio, they distill our contemporary angst and nostalgia for times past (the American West, in Bernie's case) into diamonds that live forever -- or, in this reviewer's experience, more than 30 years. Yes, cuts on this album may seem campy -- they reflect the times! But there's substance here. If one song can represent the feeling of liberation many people felt in the 60s and 70s, that song is Philadelphia Freedom. Nobody who lived through the years before and after can listen to that song without getting emotional. I'm convinced that future musicologists will study today's pop artists with the same reverence current scholars show the composers of classical and baroque music. Elton John will be at the top of their lists. As will most of the songs from this album.

Sir Elton's Greatest Hits Vol. #2 just average
Okay, I've always been an Elton John fan since I first heard 'Rocket Man' back in the day. And I still occasionally play his first greatest hits album, along with 'Madman Across the Water' and 'Goodbye Yellow Brick Road'. So, way back when, my sister bought Elton John's 'Greatest Hits Vol. #2' and I would listen to the album back then. I loved songs like 'Lucy In the Sky with Diamonds' and 'Pinball Wizard', so I loved the album and most of the music on it. But, my, how time changes our perspective on things. I was really looking forward to re-hearing this album and reliving some great old memories. But either I've realized that most of these songs are really tired or they just weren't ever very good in the first place. Don't get me wrong: I still love 'Pinball Wizard', 'Lucy In the Sky With Diamonds', 'Someone saved My Life Tonight' and several others, but I truly wonder if this album would have met with greater applause, both then and now, if Sir E. had waited a few years before releasing it and then either replacing some of the songs, such as 'I Feel Like a Bullet In the Gun of Robert Ford' with a couple of his other ACTUAL!! greatest hits; or maybe if the album itself had been remastered instead of just reissued. The songs truly sound weak and have no real feeling behind them, no zest, no power; no LIFE, in other words. This is an album I will listen to once, maybe twice, and then tuck away somewhere and never listen to again. If you are considering buying it, buy it as I did: when it's on sale for $5.00 instead of the $9.99 it was originally priced at.
