Review: Works well, as expected - I have a Kenwood TK-7180 mobile radio in my truck. I've already done a head-seperation modification but have an issue with ONE wire in the process that is hit-or-miss. That one wire is the audio for the head unit. It also was a tiny speaker so I figured I'd add this as an external speaker. Going on Kenwood's recommendation, I purchased the KAP-2 modification kit to connect the speaker. Once done, this has much better fidelity than my original head unit speaker at louder volumes.
Review: You Do Get What You Pay For - Kenwood's KES-5 Speaker is pricey compared to Brand X mobile speakers but you do get a super premium product that will probably last a lifetime. The styling is a bit more retro than previous models. It's a big speaker with 20 watt optimal and 40 watt peak input. While it does have a plastic housing, it's heavy, rugged and well made. The sound is about 3x greater than the tinny speaker built into my Kenwood 742 Amateur Radio. My only complaint is it doesn't come standard with a phone plug, which is pretty standard on Amateur Radio equipment. For a couple of bucks they could have included a phone plug that could detach from the blade connectors that do come on the cord. So be prepared to order a phone plug separately. There are no built-in filters, so if you're looking for a speaker for HF work, you'll need a radio that has those filters built into the radio itself.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Sounds great
*by M***J on February 4, 2018*

Wow, this speaker sounds great! I plan to use it with my Kenwood TM-V71A VHF/UHF ham radio in my pickup truck. The speaker wire is attached to the speaker, but it's not terminated with anything. If you need some sort of plug, you will need to buy that separately and attach it yourself. In my case, I purchased a 3.5mm mono plug and soldered it to the wire. It seems to work well so far.
