I'm sure it had a purpose but we never figured it out. One thing I wish this came with was the replacement foam. The stuff attached to the original battery ripped apart and looked terrible, but we made it work. Also, you definitely, definitely want to have a hair dryer or heat gun or else you'll tear up your Switch trying to free up the stock tape. We managed with using a space heater because I couldn't find my heat gun, but I don't recommend it. We put it all back together and it came right on. I didn't have a chance to rate the battery life but it had 40% on it out of the box and took charge just fine.
