I had my doubts about how sturdy any support could be that mounts with only one screw. These have a thick, long screws that, if run into a stud, makes them very sturdy. I’m guessing they can support maybe 15 lb each if installed properly. I did not use the drywall anchor option, and suspect the supports would be a lot less sturdy if so mounted.A great thing about these (or any floating shelf bracket) is that if your shelf is a bit longer than the stud spacing, you should be able to mount the supports in studs regardless of how asymmetrically the studs are positioned relative to the shelf. Since the supports are not visible, asymmetrical positioning is ok.It is important to drill the mounting hole for the support screws absolutely perpendicular to the wall. I created a jig for that purpose by drilling a perpendicular hole through a 4” x 4” x 1” thick block of wood. Choose a bit that will result in a tight fit for the screw.I used the supports for shelves made of 1” thick walnut. The support rods fit in a half inch diameter hole, leaving plenty of wood between the hole and my shelf surfaces. Drilling the hole centered in the thickness of the board and perpendicular to the wall edge is essential and could be a challenge if you don’t use a drill press with a vise. I used one, and it was an easy task to drill the holes.Take care to measure the actual distance between support rod screw holes and use that to locate the holes in the shelf (or vice versa). The support mounting screws are not concentric with the rods. That allows you to adjust the distance between rod centers by rotating the rods to make up for minor differences (e.g., +- 1/8”) with shelf hole spacing.The mounting screws are threaded into the ends of the rods. I removed them and chucked the rod ends of the screws into my cordless drill and ran them into the pilot holes in the wall. I then threaded the rods onto the the screws and used a wrench on the rod to run the rod up to the surface of the wall board. I did not use the washers included with the supports. Therefore, the shelves fit snugly against the wall board without having to cut recesses in the shelves around the mounting holes to hide the washers. Because the rods and screws are not concentric, any recess would have to be cut at a larger diameter than that of the washer. That would limit the lower end of thickness that could be used for the shelf board.If you want to remove the supports from the wall, be aware that the rods might just unscrew from the mounting screws, leaving nothing but about 1” of screw threads protruding from the wall. It’d be hard to get a grip on that to turn. So, you might want to put some loctite red on the threads before you thread the rods onto the screws after the screws have been mounted in the wall. ### ⭐ The metal is weak and the anchors don't work *by R***N on Reviewed in the United States on April 29, 2020* These anchors will only work by drilling into studs. The anchors they come with will not hold them in drywall unless your drywall happens to be a 1 1/2" thick. Haven't installed yet, but they appear to be high quality.
