Character driven, not a how-to book, but a novel of friends and family surviving and reaching out to help others survive. Unlike your typical post-apoc fare, this book is filled with hope and compassion, with an emphasis on rebuilding to benefit everyone, not just the lucky few who had the best pre-impact preparations.The only thing I would have liked to see was bits of what happened in the 10 years and how other groups managed to survive. I understand why that information wasn't included - it would have changed the entire tone of the series from one of hope to "this is what you need to do" but curiosity being what is it, I kept wondering what happened in Genesis during the ashfall.There's a bit more violence in this one, but it's necessary violence (ie, not violence just to move a character from A to B). I'd recommend this series for preppers to hand out to non-preppers to show we're all not hunkered down in our bunkers, praying for the end of civilization so we can set up our own little fiefdoms.Bit and pieces of the entire series that I loved and were nice touches: - getting the kids involved so they felt a part of the group - planning for long days with nothing but time - the ham radio system - the "lifestarts" - emphasizing humanity over mere survival - the inclusion of dying arts (I can't tell you how many post-apoc stories I've read where the preppers didn't include nary a bolt of cloth or any way to make more cloth. Makes you wonder just where they planned on getting new underwear later) - bringing pets alongSeriously, read the series and enjoy. I enjoyed hearing about how the people had moved forward with their lives and advanced. While a lot of in the book are not very plausible or the faith writer puts into humanity's ability to survive and thrive after something like this, it was still a great story with good information tucked inside. While the author chose to focus primarily on the good and only lightly touch the harsh reality of life after the event but when she does it paints a vivid picture.I was disappointed that the cliff hanger from book 2 was not addressed in more detail in book there, this was just a very quick mention of the end of book two in one sentence which is why I did not give it 5 stars. If you have not read the series you will not be disappointed, start with book 1 and you will be hooked. While I know this seems like the end of the series I hope there is at least another book to come. I believe that there is still more of this story to tell, I would enjoy to read something discussing the first few years in the cave and then maybe also incorporating something further down the road 50 years or similar. The author is very talented and I have enjoyed everything I have ready by her. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5.0 out of 5 stars A fitting conclusion to a wonderful trilogy *by K***R on Reviewed in the United States on August 7, 2012* As I read the first two books in the Target Earth series I wondered what the author could do for an encore, and now that I have finished the third book I say it was the best of the three. I enjoyed catching up with previous characters that seemed like old friends as well as learning about new ones introduced here. The evolution of the towns was fascinating and I loved how the survivors came to cherish life in the wake of such a terrible cataclysm. Everything was not wine and roses and I appreciated how the author showed that sometimes even the best intentions need to be backed up with resolve.If you are looking for Mad Max mayhem, this is not the series for you. If you want to read a story written about "real" characters dealing with adversity and hardship, then pick up these books and enjoy.
