I have not had to clean it and all. Just clean the filter and that is it. As a result my usual clear water has turned a murky green in the late spring/early summer sun.I was looking for a product to help and came across this product. I have put in two scoops of the product, twice a week since my pond is about 200 gallons.As other reviews have stated, this product takes time to work. I have given the third dose and can now see further into the water than before. It SEEMS to be working.The filter has started running longer without being bogged down with algae also.I am helping with a water Lilly and floating plants to block the sunlight and compete for nutrients. That is helping but I do credit the product.I will update with more stars if the water continues to clear. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5.0 out of 5 stars They started feeling better and feeding again thank goodness *by L***. on Reviewed in the United States on July 19, 2014* As others have stated...this DOES work, not over night or even in a week, but it did work. I had a problem though...after the initial two weeks I had a massive algea die off which spiked the PH levels and my fish stopped feeding, indicating they weren't feeling well. So I read up on water quality and discovered that my water was too soft which effects alkalinity and the ability of the water to mitigate wide swings in the PH levels. So I added Calcium Hydrochloride (for swimming pools) lilttle by little to increases the hardness and some vinegar little by little (about a cup a day while checking the levels morning and night) to gradually decrease the PH down to an acceptable level (over the course of days so as not to stress the fish further). They started feeling better and feeding again thank goodness. Then I added some pond salt at the recommended levels. I also vaccumed out the dead algea that collected in the pump housing with a wet vac and cleaned the filters in the water fall several times too (1200 gal pond with waterfall feature). Now the water is crystal clear and the fish are back to normal. So my recommendations are to check the hardness first and get that corrected, and then test the PH levels. Then use this product while monitoring the PH levels if you had a bad algea bloom like I did. I wish I would have started using it in the spring before the water started to cloud up though . I do wish the instructions might have warned me about the results of an algea die off.
