Carey Lowell (Jamie Ross) Elevates Season 7 from a Potentially Mundane Sequel to Season 6

*by M***E on Reviewed in the United States on July 21, 2015*

I watched Law & Order on Netflix, seasons 1-8, straight through. Unfortunately, Netflix had no seasons after 8 and, now, they don't have the rights to it any longer. I've been purchasing the seasons that I most enjoy and that I'll watch over and over. What I've found most interesting as I re-watch this season is my appreciation for Carey Lowell (Jamie Ross). Perhaps her talent and her character were overshadowed by the death of Claire Kincaid, which was a surprise to me when I first watched the show. Carey Lowell (Jamie Ross) is great, for a number of reasons. The contrast between Ross and Kincaid is also what the show needed rather than attempt to replace Kincaid with a similar character, which would have been doomed, given viewer fondness for Claire Kincaid (myself included). So what is it about Jamie Ross that sets her apart? In the beginning, it's clear that she pushes at McCoy's backing off on on "giving 'em the max." The after-effects of Season 6's last episode, which focused on the team witnessing a death-penalty lethal injection, appear to have left McCoy timid at the opening of the season, willing to cut deals that he'd have never considered in the past. Ross opens with: "Jack, I believe in monsters and things that go bump in the night, and may they all rot in hell." Ross' aggressiveness and unwillingness to defer to McCoy are new experiences for him, I think. Ross is more sexualized than Kincaid, but appropriately so. She carries herself more as a woman (she's not rail-thin, barely filling out her business suit) and she'll connect with people in a more emotional manner than did Kincaid. I find her interesting as a woman. Kincaid's feminism was often dismissed by Schiff and McCoy, and I think that Claire deferred more than she'd have liked. I don't agree with Ross' approach in some ways, but I admire the character. McCoy has never been good at expressing what motivates him to do the work that he does, but Ross can articulate much of what's behind the choices that she makes. That's one aspect of her character that seems to unsettle McCoy. Ross assumes that she is his equal, with no apologies for doing so. This means that Ross also shares one of McCoy's character flaws: the tendency to be overly-confident, which sometimes catches up with her.

The season that won an Emmy

*by B***R on Reviewed in the United States on February 28, 2013*

This has to be in one of the top five best seasons of Law & Order. It is as good and golden as season 2, the first season to be nominated for an Emmy. Bond girl, Carey Lowell joins the cast as ADA Jamie Ross, Jack's new assistant. The episodes are all well written with powerful and emotional plots for the characters. No Homicide crossover episode this year, but instead there is a three-part story arc where the detectives and the ADA's make multiple trips to Los Angeles to investigate the brutal murder of an executive in a movie production company. From corrupt cops to good Samaritans or lack of to bad judges, this season will grab you and take you on a ride through the ups and downs of the criminal justice system. There are rights, there are wrongs then there is a wide field full of different shades of grey. This is about those shades of grey. Also note that there were no cast changes between seasons 7 and 8, marking it the second time in the history of the series run since season 2. And I guarantee that the final scene in the series final will make you shed a tear or as least give you chills as it fades out. The 7th season belongs to all and any Law & Order fan. After watching this season you will see that the Emmy Award Law & Order received for Outstanding Drama Series in 1997 was well deserved.

    law and order season 7

*by F***W on Reviewed in the United States on April 18, 2010*

If u love to watch law and order the way i do this is a must own season which includes some of the best episodes with detective Lenny Briscoe (Jerry Orbach ) and detective Ray Curtis ( Benjamin Bratt ) also joining the cast is newly appointed assistant Jamie Ross ( Carey Lowell ) to a.d.a Jack Mccoy (Sam Waterston ). Included in this season is a three part episode that takes the cast from new york to L.A. and back. also i could list every episode and main theme but that would take up too much space in my opinion this is one of the best season on sale to date and the season finale episode is one you will never forget. which takes theD.A. adam schiff from a capitol punishment involved case to his personal decision on his wife's life who is on life support. I would definetly recommend this season this anyone who is a fan of law and order. ( i can't wait till season 8 goes on sale).
