Well worth the money. New ‘go to’ lens. Buy it.
Well worth the money. I switched to Sony from canon a few months back and have had to start again on the lenses. This was my second prime and third lens. Previously I just had a kit and Sony FE 50mm f1.8. I do a lot of food photography and wanted this lens for the minimum focus distance as it would enable close ups. It works beautifully for that. At f2.8 there’s creamy okeh bokeh and a decent enough DoF for food close ups, and all at 22cm - it’s just brilliant for my needs. I also do overhead table lay shots and the 50mm was very often too narrow so I needed more space to stop having to perch a tripod on top of tables or stacks of books etc. This is wide enough to get everything in but not too wide to distort any more noticeably than the 50mm. I also do street and am a journo so do a lot of photos indoors and in very tight spaces (pubs etc). This should fix any tight space issues post coronavirus as I have the extra width now. Shots look really natural and image quality is great. Noticing some vignetting as well as quality drop off at corners at f2 and f1.8. Vignette can be corrected in LR and the quality drop off isn’t pronounced enough to drop stars. I don’t usually shoot wide open for my purposes anyway. It’s lightweight, low profile and the AF is really decent although not tested video fully yet. This will now be my ‘go to’ everyday lens.

“Sharp, Compact, and Perfect for Street Photography”
This Sony 35mm f/1.8 lens has completely transformed my street photography. Its compact size makes it incredibly easy to carry all day, and the wide f/1.8 aperture allows me to shoot in low light without compromising on image quality. The lens produces crisp, detailed images with beautiful contrast. Autofocus is fast and silent, which is a huge plus for candid street shots. I love the natural field of view — it captures scenes without distortion, perfect for storytelling.

Useful and good.
Small, good for travel, nice medium soft bokeh, sharp image, high quality image results, haven’t noticed the noise and it’s good value.

Fantastic portrait / documentary lens
Great lens for my uses. I mostly photograph people and it's fantastic. Small size, very quick AF (even on my a7ii), nice vignette, sharp from wide open. Build wise, it's pretty much the same size as the 55 1.8, which made me very happy. They even look similar but the 55 does feel more pristine. The 35's focus ring sticks out, rather than being flush with the barrel, but that's nitpicking. Having the custom button is a definite plus over the 55. The only caution I would throw is for anyone that shoots landscapes etc - even at f8 there's vignetting at the very edges, which is rather strange, but to me it doesn't matter. This has been noted on some proper lens reviews as well I believe.

Good but strong vignetting wide open
The lens is clear and the autofocus is fast. I’m still adjusting to this being my only focal length on my A7iii - I’m coming from a 50mm 1.8 and this 35 is now my only lens. It’s a great everyday lens though - especially if using indoors. It’s wide enough that you don’t feel boxed in but has enough reach to frame your subjects. The one thing I’m struggling with is landscape, but that’s my level of skill and experience to blame, not the lens. In most light it is fine, but with the recent snow and bright white backdrops it has really highlighted the vignette which is quite strong wide open. Shooting in Raw, this is nothing that can’t be corrected in post but just be aware it’s there. A good purchase and everyday lens.

Awesome Lens
I have used this for video and photo and so happy with the purchase. It's got fast autofocus, sharp images and fairly well built. I was using a third party 35mm before and decided to go for Sony as I wasn't happy with my previous lens. I can happily confirm that difference is huge between my old 35mm and this one. It has performed well and is now my favourite lens that I own the other 2 being the 24-105mm f4 and 55mm f1.8. The minimum focus distance is also nice on this lens. Overall very happy with the purchase and would definitely recommend it. You will not be disappointed with the performance. Also I use the Sony A7III if anyone wanted to know.

Quality vs. Use
It’s a fantastic product, as are most lenses that Sony manufacture, however, you’re more suited toward purchasing a “catch-all” lens which does everything. This lens shines for near to mid ranges but nothing further, at least during my testing. I feel like for most people, they’d be better suited for a F1.4 variable lens (likely 28-65/70mm).
