It uses the water itself as a seal. The external foot valve may need attention after 10 years or so but it is doubtful. **Q: Will it actually pump water when it's 75-100 feet down? A well driller said one can only pump by hand if water's 20-26 feet, based on altitude. True?** A: Your well driller is referring to suction pumps or pitcher pumps. Our pump is a force pump. We have clients at over 9,000' in elevation in the mountains of Colorado that have this pump set down at around 100' and it is working great. We also market this pump to several well drillers that use it at depths well over 100'. So to answer your question, absolutely yes. **Q: My water level is 180ft; 4 inch casing, 1" pipe to submersible pump. will it work. suggestions** A: 180feet? It should work...mine is only 20 feet to static water and it works wonderful! The mechanics of it should work at any level. The basket on the bottom of it with the check valve apparatus would be my only concern. My casing pipe is 6" so it's not a problem, but with a 4" with an inch being taken up by your pipe to your pump, your casing pipe may be a little small. Check the specifics on the width of the largest part on the site. Your actual well will probably be well below the 180 water level...this pump would only need to go about 15 feet down into the static water level. In an emergency, I would pull up my submersible pump to use it if I had to. It works like a charm but check the stats on the site. I would say the biggest part of the bottom apparatus is about 3 inches. **Q: Can this be installed alongside an electric pump? We have a well as a primary water source. We want to be able to get H20 if there is a power outage** A: nr danilow,We designed this pump system to be able to install beside an existing electric pump if the well casing is 4" in diameter or larger. Things to consider are, if your well is 4" then the drop pipe to your existing pump needs to be 1" PVC or smaller. Yo can use 1 1/4" if you are using poly pipe. If your well is in a cold climate and you are 4" in diameter and have a pitless adapter then the pitless adapter will have to be removed while our pump is installed and then put back when our pump is in place. Any other installation over 4" doesn't require any extra attention other than a well seal with a proper hole size for both pumps. I hope this answers your question sufficiently.
