Klein Tools ET140 Pinless Moisture Meter for Non-Destructive Moisture Detection in Drywall, Wood, and Masonry; Detects up to 3/4-Inch Below Surface

I purchased this to detect moisture inside of my home. It works great and is a simple tool for even a basic DIYer. The device is easy to read, the brightness of the display is just right...especially in dark places. The price is good, given that Klein is a very reputable brand with quality tools. I was able to scan all of my walls and detected another area of high moisture that I was unaware of....unfortunately! Definitely a useful device to see what is happening on the inside of your walls.

It’s Klein so is a good product. If you want to avoid damage pipes of finding leaks this is a very cheap way to go.

We rented out our house for the last 15 years while I was overseas. I recently remodeled the bathrooms, recently the one bathroom always smells damp. The last thing I wanted to do was tear up the bathroom again. I decided to try this moisture detector. It came fast, had a good price and is really easy to use. But I kept wondering if it is actually accurate. I did a video that shows everything below. I decided to do some tests with it. It has 2 meters, one shows you the percent of moisture and the other is a green to red/dry to wet moisture indicator. It also has four different modes; drywall, masonry, hardwood and softwood. First I set it on the drywall mode and tried it out on my wall. The moisture indicator didn't register at all and it showed anywhere from 1% to 5%. This seemed like quite a range and had me wondering if 5% was good or bad. I knew I needed to test a couple of scenarios. I got a piece of scrap drywall and filled a bowl with water. I put the drywall over the bowl of water, this gave me a reading that was less than 1% and still didn't register on the moisture indicator. This had me thinking maybe a 5% reading is bad. But, I am willing to try anything before I tear into the drywall to find out there is no moisture. Next, I poured a small pool of water on the floor and laid the drywall right on top of it. With the meter on the drywall which is sitting on the pool of water, it gave me a 6% reading but still didn't register on the moisture indicator. Again, now I am really starting to think I may be tearing into some walls. At this point my drywall is wet and I need to clean up the water I dumped on the floor. I soaked the water up with the drywall piece then tested it again. I put the moisture meter directly on the part that was in the water. It now showed 25% and 2 green bars on the moisture indicator. I didn't let the drywall really soak up the water and it read at 25%. I now see that a low reading isn't really detecting any water damage maybe just a little bit of moisture. At 25% there is definitely some moisture or water. I would recommend this to anyone who thinks they may have a water leak prior to cutting into the floor or drywall. Feel free to check out my video.

Klein tools have always been my go to for accuracy, durability, and quality. This tool works great to test moisture in your flooring and drywall.

Seems to work really well. I'm not sure how accurate it really is. I dont have a way to verify it. But for the price and not having to damage the product it gives a general idea.

I just got this. I have a full basement and while the walls appear dry I've always wanted a reasonably priced moisture meter to stay on top of things. I also plan to use it to monitor my boat. I know that it isn't intended for fiberglass but in at least one review I saw that it can be used as a relative check. Find a place that you know is dry and see what the baseline reading is. Then compare that to other areas in the boat. I haven't tried it on the boat yet but I have tried it on the walls in my basement. I like the fact it is light weight, easy to use, has a hold button and the price is great. Klein tools have always been very good to me.

Big, clear display. Probably not as effective or accurate as the versions with the prongs, but non-destructive as a result. Easy to use.

Seems to be a great moisture meter. I believe it's accurate and the readings are consistent. Before and after planing shows a difference of .4% which proves this meter was worth the money. It also works great for other materials. Would recommend.

Excelentes productos, solo que la pilas incluidas no sirven tienes que comprar nuevas pilas desde el primer uso o te vas a quedar sin pila en el primer uso en campo.

This was cheaper than normal retail and it was delivered the next day. Works perfectly and is much better than the meters that have the prongs (electrodes).

É muito bom, conferido com o detetor de umidade da Flir e ele fez a mesma detecção. Esses tipos de medidores não marcam a umidade absoluta e sim a umidade relativa, é necessário fazer o mapa de detecção. O aparelho tem um ótimo custo benefício, engenheiros diagnósticos podem apostar no aparelho, é durável mas, não tem assistência no Brasil, se quebrar, compra outro. Eu recomendo e uso.

Habe ich gekauft für mein Wohnmobil und damit Feuchtigkeit am großen Panoramafenster (Dichtung) entdeckt, von Werkstatt bestätigt. Bisschen teuer, aber wahrscheinlich seinen Preis wert.
