I love charging equipment. Like seriously, I love to have them everywhere. I love my wall chargers (I have 4), my external charges (I have 3), my different lengths of charging cables (I don't want to know how many), but I have never had a car charger I've thought of as more than "eh, it's decent." But this one is fantastic! Now, I'm not saying there aren't better ones out there. There could be, but this is the best one I've ever tried so far. First of all and most important, the performance. It is wonderful! I haven't done a test for how fast it will go if I don't use my phone at all, but if I'm playing music over bluetooth and using the GPS, it will still go up about 15%-20% in my 45-60 minute commute. So wonderful! Side note - I am using a charge-only cable which supposedly charges faster than a data cable, so that may or may not be effecting the results, I haven't tried it with another cord. Secondly, the size - this is by far the smallest little unit I've ever had in my car. It doesn't sit flush in my car (I have a 2014 Ford Focus, for reference...) but it also doesn't stick out very far. It just looks clean-cut compared to the bulky ones I've had in the past Thirdly, it has two ports. And it charges just as fast if you have two things plugged in. So convenient! I quite often have both my phone and my external charger plugged in to it while I'm driving around (told you, I love my chargers). I've been using this little guy very consistently for a month now and zero complaints, only happiness with it. It seems like very good quality but if it doesn't last long or performance goes down I will update my review. Update 1/9/18: STILL working awesomely. I thought it had finally started giving out last month, but it turned out I had bad usb cords. It still charges multiple devices just as quick as any wall charger I have, and I am ordering another one now for my husband's car! Update 12/20/19: Still good! I gave it to my brother and his wife when they were needing one (i had an extra sitting at home) because my car now has two outlets for these). So, no forward continuation on the longevity of my original, but it lasted me four and a half years and is now being enjoyed by someone else :) I will continue to buy Scosche chargers for as long as i see quality like this!

Update: I've been using this for a while now, and it's still performing like a champ. At least for Apple products, it charges the devices as quickly as if you are using the more powerful 12W iPad wall power adapters. I've never had a power interruption like some other low-profile chargers do when overheating at extended full-current usage. I also have not encountered any noisy Aux operation in my car's audio system, like some other adapters are prone to. If you are looking for a car charger for your iPhone or iPad, this is THE one to buy. I can't comment on other mobile devices. Original: Five star, for now. I'll update later, after I've been using it more. Unlike some unlucky purchasers, the one delivered was the one advertised. This charger is the one I've been wanting for a long time. With a family full of phone and tablet users who go on lots of long road trips, we go through a lot of these things. I always try to buy the best ones I can find, but I'm almost always disappointed. Most chargers that claim to have high output power do not have the USB data line impedance necessary for Apple devices to detect that they're plugged into a higher power charger. It makes no difference if the little sticker says "2A" if the phone only detects a 2.5W jack. I received this one yesterday and tried it out, and my phone appropriately identified the charger as 12W capable (even though it will only draw 5W Max). I will try plugging my tablet in later today to see if it will indeed supply 12W on one port while simultaneously providing 5W to my phone. If so, this will be the best 12V charger I've purchased. This is replacing an adapter (not this model) that burned up and quit working. I'm a little worried about this, due to its small form factor and power rating. In order to to provide such high power in this small form factor, it needs to be very efficient. Time will tell if it will continue to perform under heavy use, but to be honest, if it only lasts 6 months while performing as advertised, I would be happy to order another one to replace it at this price point.

This review is for SCOSCHE USBC242M 12 Watts per port (24W/4.8A total output) USB Car Charger - the FASTEST CHARGE RATE for Apple and Android Devices - Retail Packaging - Black Could not be happier with this product. I ordered this well over a year ago and haven't had any issues at all. The product functions exactly as described. Phones charge at as fast of a rate that they'll allow. For example, my old Samsung Galaxy S4 (before the need for charge-only cables in car), using a standard car charger, would slowly lose battery life if I was trying to use my navigation and stream Pandora at the same time. When I bought this charger, the phone would continue to charge at a quicker rate than the old charger while simultaneously streaming music and using navigation. Now I have a Galaxy S5 that requires me to use a charge-only cable (where the data pins have been shorted so the device knows that it is strictly for charging) in the car or the charge rate will cap out at .5 amps. When using the charge-only cable, I get the same performance out of this charger as I did with my old phone. I have also tested the above charge performance with my wife's Galaxy S5 plugged in first by itself, then while mine was plugged in. I received the same performance results regardless of whether one device or two was plugged in. The low profile design is very aesthetically pleasing for my style preference. To give you an idea of how low profile it is, my car has a spring loaded flap over the power port. If I removed the cables, that flap can close to about 70%-80% over the charger. Much better than bulkier chargers that stick out like an eyesore. Overall, you're getting a wonderful product for an extremely reasonable price. You will not be disappointed. EDIT: It's 2024 now (original review from 2016) and I still use this thing in my car. I know there's better technology out there at this point, but this hasn't given me a reason to replace it; it still works perfectly fine.

EDIT: 03/25/15 Upon further inspection I realize I have received the wrong adapter which is why it's so bright and doesn't fit flush. I actually received the reVOLT 12W + 12W found here: http://www.scosche.com/staff-picks/ipad-usb-car-charger-two-port Adapter was great and finally gave me a quick charge on my Galaxy S4, however there were a couple of things that I had to knock a star off for. For one I love that the USB ports can actually charge my S4. Every time I used it with a car charger that claimed to be 2.1, 2.3 or 2.4 amps, it would trickle charge or remain at the charge level it was plugged in. This drove me crazy and led me to keep an 12000mah external battery charger in the glove box. With the Scosche adapter I no longer have to worry about that. The profile is also decently low but not flush like my Griffin Powerjolt. A big negative for me (which could be a plus for many) is how bright it is. If I'm driving at night, I don't want a blue nightlight shining in my face. The image shows a nice little blue LED. In actually, it is BOTH USB ports that glow. It even mentions it on the packaging. if the light was dimmer it would be fine but it's way to intense to be in the front. This is a keeper, but it is being used in the center console instead of the dash due to the brightness. Pros: + Dual Turbo-charge (2.4 amps) ports + Low Profile* Cons: - Bright!!! Doesn't have the little LED but instead both USB ports glow! - Sticks out from socket. Not as flush as my Griffin Powerjolt Duo

I am in the car for work often and although my car has a USB port, it's woefully under powered for a new car. The Scosche was one of the top recommendations by the Wire Cutter. I find it excellent to charge my iPad and phones quickly at the same time. While I love Waze, it eats up battery life quickly and being able to recharge fast is a great solution for me. When I am in outlying areas, constant searching for weaker cellular signals also drains the battery life of my phone. The onboard USB charges at about 1/4 of the rate of the Scosche. I have a lightning cable for apple products and a micro USB for others. Plus, I have a Micro USB to lightening adapter, so I can charge two Apple devices. That has me fully covered. It's small, which I like, as this is plugged into the storage area of my center console. The lights show it's plugged in and working, but as it's in the storage area of the center console, I don't see the lights. It's so small that it's almost flush with the socket. The only time I take this out of my car is when I travel and rent a car. It's tiny, easily portable and does a great job. So far, 5 months of use and this has done it's job well.

The Scosche USBC242M is a great USB charger to take advantage of your Auxiliary or Cigarette Lighter ports. No issues changing at all. Have used this on a few different models of iPhone as well as a couple different Samsung phones and even an iPad. Charged everything just fine with a stable and steady charge. It is well bult and very sturdy and should last a long time. This is the third Scosche USB charger that I have gotten as my kids "borrow" them for their cars and of course I never get them back. So I guess that they approve of these as well.

To be perfectly honest with everyone who reads this, whether it's for work or personal, I recommend this process to everyone! Reason being is, this is a great quality product especially for the price! I bought one sometime in late 2017 and it's still going strong! I started doing Lyft in mid 2018 and bought me another one because I liked it so much + it lights up blue ;). You can charge 2 tablets at the same fast speed with no problems, and for phones well I have both pieces in my Prius one in the front for my two phones and one in the back with an iPhone cord and usb. At least a few times a month I have passengers telling wow my phone charged pretty fast or faster than my car charger, I say yeah it's a quality piece lol but you also have to consider how a person takes care of their things and how often they are used too. I'm kinda ocd about taking care of certain things but yeah. In conclusion when I told my brother how much I paid, his response was and (I can't say store name but I'll just say store lol) I'll just get it from the store. But realistically it probably cost $3-$10 and how long is it really going to last? How many times have you lost/misplace it or had it broken? This company also makes car holders for the car. I don't own one but will in the near future. Happy trails!

I consider this charger the GOAT because it’s the only that stays firmly lodged inside the outlet. I have owned a few others, and they easily slip/fall out of the outlet, failing to maintain a steady charge. Not this one. I first purchased this charger around early 2021, but lost it 2.5-3 years later. During this time, I used it almost everyday, almost always placing it and removing it from the outlet more than once per day. Despite heavy use, it was working perfectly and charging my devices fast until the day that I lost it. Recently ordered myself 2 more.

Bit of a squeeze getting two USB leads into it at the same time and removing one can then pull the unit out of the socket.

Great charger. Seems to be working well in the car. Two USB ports with 2.4 amps each. Charges my devices quickly. I like the blue LED. It wouldve been nice if there was a small blue LED light on the device that was not hidden by USB cables when connected. (the old model didnt have LEDs on the USB connection but had a small light on one side).
