A Wonderful Exercise in Lunacy and Education
I've been a TMBG's fan since Lincoln. Their humor and style seem to fit my personality. While I was disappointed with their last release, The Spine, I was excited that they were going to release another "kids" CD and accompanying DVD. Having enjoyed No!, I had high hopes for this release, especially for this DVD. The result? A wonderful exercise in lunacy and education. It is amazing (like the CD No!) how adults and children alike can enjoy this DVD. While, even at the very basic levels of teaching letters to kids, it is filled with "adult" humor and references that helps crossover and make it more bearable than other educational programs that parents sometimes get tired of watching with their kids. As for the songs, all are very entertaining and there are many standouts. "LMNO" harkens back to the classic Dan Aykroyd skit on SNL where he wanted to shorten the alphabet and make LMNO into one letter and thus, this song tries to un-do his damage. "Letter Shapes" features no lyrics but it reminds me of the days when Electric Company would make digital sounds to represent their letter/word of the day. And "E Eats Everything" is the best and most entertaining video for all ages. The extras on the disk include some live performances of songs from No and The Spine and a few animated videos as well. Don't miss the simple yet oddly compelling video for "Violin." And "Robot Parade" is just awesome! All I can say is TMBG has a great talent of mixing the intelligent lunacy with simple and catchy children's themes. I would not be upset at all of their remaining CD's and DVD's stick with this theme.

Great Music, Great Visuals, Great Fun!
I can't say enough about how awesome this CD/DVD combo is! My son just turned two and he adores they MIGHT BE giants! He asks to hear and/or see them daily. It offers fun and education at the same time! What great Artistry from they MIGHT BE giants and crew in both the musical and visual arts for our little ones. It is great for kids of all ages....my Son has been listening and watching them since he was 18 months old....and my Girlfirends boys who are 10 and 12 enjoyed it while visiting too! As for the adults--quite tolerable and even catchy tunes! HIGHLY RECOMENDED--Go out and get this one as well as their Here Come the 1 2 3's!

YEAH! We love the ABC's
It's simple, this is an awesome kid's CD! I bought it when my son was 2 years old and he's now 3. He still loves the music and sings to it all of the time, even when it's not on. It's a must have for car rides and will give your kids a chance to learn their ABC's in fun. The DVD is a bonus! It's also great - sometimes cheesy, but I think that's TMBG's style - - - the images are funky and fun to atch for grownups - and the music is not the same annoying sing-songs of Wiggle fame (sorry Wiggle fans). I have since purchased this as kid's gifts for all of the 1 to 4 year olds in our little circle and so far, everyone has shown a liking.

Great CD, lots of fun, adult friendly kids music.
It goes without saying that a little Barney can become nails across a chaulk board. I gave this CD 5 stars because our 20 month old son loves it and my spouse and I can listen to it with him and have fun with it. The tunes are catchy. Something you can goof around with and sing along with. The alphabet is a big deal right now with our son (he loves ABC books too) and this makes learning lots of fun. We loved this one so much we eventually bought Here Come the 123s. The DVD that comes with it is interesting to say the least. A couple of the songs on the CD were obivously made for the video portion as the song makes sense once you see the video. Good use of puppets and animation.

The Usual TMBG "Geek" Rock CD - Rated T (for toddlers)
Here Come the ABCs [CD/DVD Combo ] Since its debut, my kids absolutely LOVE listening to this entire CD over and over again. Why? TMBG's children's songs are just as infectious as the adult songs they wrote in the late 80s/early 90s (remember "Istanbul-Not Constantinople"?). The song melodies and chord selections are not the only eclectic traits that make TMBG tunes so unusually appealing to our children (and to the inner child in each adult!); its the ordinary yet peculiar lyrics that make TMBG songs notable and easily assimilated into our minds for later retrieval. So, don't be surprised if you find your kids AND YOURSELF start humming "I C U" in the car on the way to school ... What tickled me even more about this CD is that my youngest learned her ABCs before she turned one, just from reciting the songs over and over and over and over and over again ... And the bundled DVD made the learning experience more stimulating and permanent, amplifying the usual TMBG weird factor with what appeared to be animated nonsense to us, but was really some intelligible, educational cartoons for my kids. I never would have guessed that band I listened to as a young adult would ever captivate my own kids! The verdict? - 5 stars - Buy it when you see it on the shelf, especially if bundled with DVD.

Wonderful album and DVD, just sad there is no surround mix
This is a very enjoyable album and companion DVD. My only wish is that they had commissioned a 5.1 mix for the DVD. So many moments of the music would benefit. As a surround nut, a 5.1 mix would have put this release over the top for me. Still, it's very entertaining and educational, so I highly recommend it, even to surroundophiles.

I cannot recommend this album highly enough. It is one of those rare things, an album for children that can stand repeat adult listening. In fact, I would rate it up there with 'Flood' and 'Don't Let's Start' for tunes, inventiveness and pure, silly fun. But it's not all fun, kids. There's some serious learning going on too. Thanks to 'The Alphabet of Nations', my children can now recite a country beginning with every letter of the alphabet, a skill that's sure to prove itself invaluable in their adult lives. The album comes with a free DVD with some wacky videos, and puppet versions of the two Johns. But if the last time you saw They Might Be Giants was in the video for Bird House in Your Soul in the eighties, look away at the end as you might be shocked. Luckily they transform into weeble-like characters for the bonus 'Higgly Town Heroes' video at the end. Phew!

Catchy songs, very educational. My 5 year old can recite the entire Alphabet of Nations, and even learned to say the alphabet backwards in about 5 seconds thanks to this CD. It's on constant repeat in our car, and we're always singing lines randomly throughout the day.

We all love this CD and DVD. What a great deal. The music catchy, educational and humorous. The DVD helps to bring the music alive and make sense of some of the songs. I have young children (2 & 4) and they both love it. Mum and dad are often caught singing the songs too! I think it will entertain us for many years to come. I highly recommend it as a purchase, it would be a great gift too.

The kids love it, we love it. Full of silly sing-a-long tunes that stick in your head and after only a few listens the kids knew all the words. The kids are in question are home-educated boys aged 6 and 5. Very educational!!!!!!!!!!! DVD brilliant too. Warning: It is very AMERICAN, which can be mildly grating after lots of listens but this is only a very minor irritation. (Sorry TMBG!, we do love you though :-))
