Review: A new contender from AMD - I bought this CPU as to upgrade from my i7 4790k, not necessarily because I was expecting a huge performance increase but my 4th gen Intel chip was starting to show it's age with compatibility issues. So I moved to a new b450 motherboard and the 3700X CPU. This Chip runs a bit hotter than I'd expect it to (Although I am looking to upgrade to an AIO in the future to help with temps), it is a very capable chip, the temperatures whilst gaming aren't too bad and it keeps up with the high end Intel chips in gaming, but the deciding factor for me was the price was £40-60 cheaper than the equivalent Intel CPU and it basically does everything other than Gaming better than Intel. AMD have really stepped up with this CPU and I don't really have much negatives to say, there are a few, such as the turbo clock issues with AMD chips and motherboards (research it before buying). This should be fixed by the time anyone is reading this review but make sure you compare at what matters most to you, and I enjoy my gaming but I enjoy streaming and recording also, which helped make my choice clear that I'd go for an AMD CPU. With my previous Intel CPU streaming and gaming wasn't really possible as I would get stuttering from little bits of lag and it was noticeable enough to not be able to stream, with this new AMD CPU you still suffer from general FPS decrease (As does Intel) but it is a lot less worse, and I am not getting stuttering in any games in-fact. So it gets a huge thumbs up from me for this. The 3600 has more cores and threads yes but you will have to spend money on a GPU. For extreme budget builds that can still perform well, the 3400g is better. If you already plan to buy a GPU the 3600 is the better option. **Q: The supplied wraith prism rgb cooler is generating an anoying rattle/buzz/resonance even though its perfectly installed ,anyone has this issue?** A: The wraith prism, while looking nice with its on board RGB isnt a very good cooler for any CPU above a Ryzen 5 3600, anything higher and the RPMs tend to max out as you push the CPU. Upgrade to a more high end cooler, for air coolers i suggest with the Noctua D15 chromax or Be Quiet! Dark rock pro 4, for AIO the Artic liquid Freezer 2 (I use this and it beat temps at max load of a more expensive Nzxt Kracken Z63 I had which i ended up returning) the Arctic liquid Freezer 2 imo is the best AIO in terms of temps, also has a VRM cooling fan, its super quiet no RGB but with such low temps at max load who cares **Q: Would this work with the go omen 30l customer motherboard?** A: Unable to answer as the Omen 30L is an HP Desktop PC series name. This series is made to suit either AMD or Intel Processors. You need to find the Motherboard model number and check the specification of suitable processors for the motherboard within the PC, but in general if it has an AMD AM4 socket then it should work, but maybe need a bios update. I would recommend this CPU to others, I would say it easily hits a 8-9/10, the only downsides are that it's not as powerful as a 9700k or 9900k, and the temps can be a bit higher than you'd expect on Idle. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great improvement over my AMD Ryzen 5 1600x, beware the included Wraith stock cooler... *by D***M on 24 June 2020* I upgraded from the R5 1600x on a B350 motherboard to the R7 3700x with the B450 MSI Carbon Gaming with an NZXT Kraken x73 AIO with 360mm rad, and kept my 1080Ti on both systems. I set up the board, CPU and RAM as a test bench first with the standard AMD Wraith cooler, after using Flashback on the MSI Bios to install a 3000 series compatible Bios on the B450 chipset. All worked, so I released the locking catch to remove the Wraith cooler to install the NZXT AIO. When I lifted the unhooked cooler free of the motherboard it actually ripped the CPU out of the socket because the standard thermal paste on the Wraith had set like glue, and the CPU was still stuck to the bottom of the cooler even though the retaining bar was still fully locked against the CPU socket on the motherboard. I had 6-7 bent CPU pins, which I was fortunately able to bend back without any snapping, and the CPU still works. Be aware of this if you fit the included cooler and intend to replace it with something different later. If you wiggle the cooler loose instead of pulling it off it shouldn't be an issue. I really wish AMD took notice of Intel and put the data pins on the socket, not on the chip. All the benchmarks I've used of the last week show a great improvement from the old CPU, so I'm happy with the purchase.
