I wrote this book to help you help your child find his voice. But not only that, I want you to simultaneously enjoy the language building process and not feel overwhelmed with worries. As parents, we have enough to fret about. I want your little one to find joy in communicating with you and I want you to feel empowered knowing that youโre learning and doing something to make a difference. As they say, knowledge is power. Fellow speech-language pathologists (SLPs) and other professionals who are coaching parents in clinics or through state-run early-intervention programs have also found My Toddlerโs First Words to be extremely useful. They greatly appreciated the cited research to support their own efforts and recommendations. In fact, some even feel this book is so comprehensive that it could be used as reading in a core SLP class like Language Development. Many of my SLP readers also said that the journaling portion was a powerful way to encourage parents to be more mindful of how they implement the strategies. Additionally, they liked that this book made their sessions a bit easier because parents could jot down questions or discuss points they may have otherwise forgotten to ask or mention at their childโs last session. Good for parents and pros.
I've only had a flick thorough this so far but it's clear it's well written for both parents and pros. It gives great 'real life' examples which I think will be really useful for parents but also for pros to use to help explain to families what something 'looks' like. Looking forward to sitting down and reading it all. It does mention the pre linguistic skills too which I'm pleased to see as it's pointless focusing in words if a child won't look at you, something I find difficult to explain to families who are hyper focused on words words words.

Very realistic, effective approach
I ordered this book to help with my two-year-old granddaughter who is experiencing a speech delay. I have found the advice and techniques to be very effective and easy to incorporate into our daily routine. I have only been working with her using the approaches recommended in this book for a few weeks and she already has learned some new words and her frustration level seems to be lessened. Keep up the good work Ms Scanlon, your expertise is greatly appreciated!

Cheap printed document
Quite annoyed as itโs just a black and white printed book. Looks really cheap and not easy to just flick through. I would like this book in its original print with hard cover and quality colour pages.
