## Description

It s been three decades since Ibanez was in the banjo business, but they re back with a bang or is it a twang? Old-timers may recall Ibanez was quite enamored with banjo-building, having even collaborated on an artist signature model with the late great Earl Scruggs. As of 2012 they re back at it, and in the Ibanez tradition, the B-50 delivers a sweet 5-string closed-back banjo at a price that won t break the bank. It features a 24-lug configuration and mahogany back and sides. The mahogany neck has a rosewood fingerboard with dot position markers. Open gear tuners lend a vintage note while keeping things in tune. Case not included.

Review: It’s a Banjo! - I’m a lifelong guitar player who finally wanted to get a few toys! The setup isn’t all that hard! I’d recommend buying a tuner and watching some YouTube videos- just gotta follow instructions. I had the intonation and action ideal (I’m a finger style jazz/ blues cat… you insert the eye roll here) in about ten minutes. I haven’t any issues with the machine heads/ tuning heads slipping like most have mentioned. There is a neat little hold down behind the bridge that can be adjusted to suit your needs in terms of tension and string height/ action. I may have mistakenly read that it comes with a case(?)- because it doesn’t! Again- been playing guitar for 30 years, classically trained, started out in grind and crust bands and worked my way to finger style jazz/ blues/ r&b etc so I’m just going off of my ear- not a difficult instrument to play if you are used to the techniques. Not a complaint, just want to mention- banjos are VERY loud and being someone who was raised to “play loud and proud or shut up”, it is a very loud instrument. 😂 Great quality, the fingerboard had some discoloration- looks like heat damage. All around- no buyer’s remorse here and I can’t wait to get rolling like Scruggs. I definitely recommend.
Review: Great Quality for the Money - My son loves this. It was gifted to him by us. The bango is beautiful. He said it was easy to set up and played beautifully. After he played it for a little while he came in and ask how much we spent on it. Of course we would not say, it was a gift. He then asked if we had spent thousands on it. We laughed and assured him no, no where close. It was an indication of the quality of the product.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Where is this bajo manufactured?**
A: china

**Q: I'm new to banjos and banjo buying. Does this item have a resonator?**
A: Yes.Choosing a Resonator or Open-Back BanjoBy Bill Evans from Banjo For DummiesFive-string banjos can be either resonator banjos or open-back banjos. There isn't a big difference, physically, to the way these two types look, and which type you choose depends largely on your own preferences:A resonator banjo has a wooden back attached to the instrument. An open-back banjo doesn't have anything attached to the back. You can easily look into the inside of the banjo's sound-producing chamber.Your decision about which kind of banjo is best for you should be based primarily on the style of music you want to play. The differences between these two types of banjos are mainly about the sounds that skilled players prefer. After you try out both kinds of banjos at a music store, you can quickly understand some of these differences, even if you've never played banjo before.Resonator banjosOver the past 150 years, banjo builders have continually tried to make banjos louder. You're probably asking yourself, Aren't banjos loud enough already? Well, maybe they are now, but it wasn't always that way. Around 1860, someone came up with the idea of attaching a wooden chamber, or resonator, to the back of the banjo body in order to increase the volume of the instrument. The resonator reflects the sound off its inside surface and projects the sound out the front of the instrument and away from the player. The result is more volume and a brighter banjo sound. In bluegrass music, you need to be able to play loud enough that the other band members and your audience can hear your virtuosic solos. Therefore, practically all bluegrass-based banjo players prefer a resonator banjo with metal strings.Entry-level resonator banjos are more expensive than comparable open-back instruments. However, if you're interested in playing bluegrass, you should spend the extra money and get a resonator banjo. The resonator is usually attached to the banjo with thumbscrews. If you ever need either less volume or the tone of an open-back banjo, you can always loosen the thumbscrews and remove the resonator to create an instant open-back instrument. Also: Bill@Ibanez #2 Posted : 11/15/2012 1:44:53 PMBill@IbanezGroups: Moderator, AdministrationJoined: 6/19/2012(UTC)Posts: 1,169Location: Bensalem, PAThanks: 10 timesWas thanked: 156 time(s) in 154 post(s)Our banjo doesn't have a tone ring! I don't know much about banjos and I'm learning more everyday since we make one now. I've been told most banjos under $500 don't have tone rings, and ours is in a lower price point.Hope this helps,-Bill

**Q: Can the resonator be removed?**
A: Yes, I bought this for my son removing the resonator was one of his favorite features.

**Q: Is the 5th string tuner geared or friction?**
A: The fifth string tuning machine on an Ibanez B50 banjo is a worm gear type.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Seems great
*by Z***H on September 20, 2024*

Purchased as a gift. Packaged mininally, but securely. My only experience is with guitars, but this is a good mid-level instrument that can accommodate beginner to intermediate players. Full adjustments seem to all be here, but I could see an expert wanting some of them to be more convenient. All-in-all, I'm happy with the purchase, and feel like it's a pretty low price for the quality.
