The 105s are definitely heavier but have lasted longer. The best part is Shimano's cleat design. My old cleats were worn beyond recognition yet there was no loss of performance. Clicking in remained positive; release was consistent; float was unaffected. These cleats also offer a lot of variation in placement and alignment. Not an issue to me; my preferred placement is neutral front-to-back, side-to-side, and rotationally on both pedals, but those with leg or foot issues or preferring a more rearward cleat position may find the 105s easier to dial in. Walking is relatively secure; covers are available but I've not found the need. The large heads on the mounting bolt add stiffness to the pedal-shoe interface but the 4 mm allen heads love to trap grit and debris that has to be picked out before the bolts can be removed. Tip: I use marine-grade anti-seize on nearly all bike fasteners, including my pedal cleat bolts.
