Some of my earliest childhood memories about trains are sitting at a crossing waiting for a 100 plus coal hopper train pass by. I am close to Pittsburgh and I am also close to Lake Erie so I can model the coal docks and loading/unloading operations. This book has a huge amount of detail and is nice for a person who never worked in the coal industry or train industry. A lot of questions were answered. I am not a fanatic about every last detail but I don't want my layout to look like a homemade bicycle. Kalmbach Publishing Company offers a huge selection of these information filled books.It seems pricey at $17 dollars for 98 pages but it is worth much more if you are modeling coal operations. I have a big selection of Kalmbach reference books in my train room but they were purchased locally.so I won't review them here. I think this would make a great gift idea for a model railroader.
