I bought a beta 52a and installed it where the 57 was.It was picking up and creating a weird buzz everytime I hit my mounted tom.I found this kelly shu, installed it easily, followed the special instructions for my mic and it was PERFECT!!! No noise. (note the old model shure 52 doesn't work with it)I have no problem drilling through my shells and I installed a Neutrik NA3MDF 3 Pin Mic XLR Male to Female Adapter Feed/Pass Thru Converter and it makes it super easy to plug the mic in using a short xlr cable inside, as well as change mics and once in all you do is plug an xlr cable into the side of the bass drum.I bought a second one for my practice/recording set. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ The best long-term bass drum mic solution. *by F***N on April 2, 2014* This is the real deal. While following the installation instructions, it installed perfectly in my 20" kick drum, and holds my Audix D6 rock solid. While i currently have the mic cord coming out the front port, in order to make sure I was happy with it, I'm definitely installing an xlr connector to the drum shell permanently. While I'm sure the less expensive composite Shu is extremely reliable, I opted to spend the extra money for the metal version, and I'm glad I did.
