I'll start by saying, finding a solution that truly works, on an outward opening door is not an easy task. I actually tried two other deadbolt security locks, before finding this perfect solution to securing my door while I'm inside. (Works on inside opening doors too. Works on any position that your deadbolt lever rests.) Here's why this security deadbolt lock is tops among the others I've tried: * Super durable, strong and fits well. * Easy to install, loosen deadbolt plate, slide two piece circular piece under plate, adjust lock around plate to where your deadbolt lever turns. * No worries that when lock is open, it will fall or slip down against deadbolt lever. It is very tight, friction is very strong, no way it will slip or close without a good amount of push or pull. Rest assured when you open lock, it will stay put. * Caution!!! If you have young children! Do not leave them unattended and step outside your door for a minute. If someone locks this from inside, there is no possible way you can unlock from outside. The door will need to be demolished to get inside, or if you can get inside through a window. Seriously, there is no way to turn your key from outside that will pop open this lock. IT IS SECURE and your key will break before you know it, and lock will not have even budged. Unlike the magnitized kind, where with just a little pressure, it will pop loose and entry is accessible. This lock is the Hulk of all locks. Want peace of mind while alone in your home? I did. Living in an apartment with maintenance men and who knows who else might have a key, I wanted peace of mind and sleep. You will never worry that anyone can break in through the door that this lock is attached to.

As a locksmith and a passionate hobbyist lock picker, I use this on my own front door in my apartment. When properly installed and enabled, this device will stop the door's deadbolt (the thumb-turn kind) from being unlocked from the outside, regardless of the method used. The deadbolt will not unlock if it's picked, bumped, jiggled, drilled, or even has the proper key inserted. This means that when it's enabled, it stops bad guys AND GOOD GUYS alike from unlocking the deadbolt from the outside. Since by design the device can only be enabled and disabled from inside, this means it can only be used while there is someone home if you live in a dwelling with only one door. When activated, the ONLY way to open the door from the outside is via destructive entry (eg, kicking the door down), EVEN IF YOU HAVE THE KEY. (WARNING: Keep this in mind if you have kids or someone elderly living with you. This product provides peace of mind in that what it does is force a would-be burglar to break something to enter the property, thus providing proof of breaking-and-entering for insurance or legal purposes. It performs as specified over and over in testing, and blocks a deadbolt handle from turning when someone has the key, or has another method for turning the deadbolt, such as a lockpick or bump. Installation is easy, requiring only a #2 phillips screwdriver or whatever your deadbolt uses for its body bolts. Just loosen but do not fully remove the deadbolt housing, slip in the bumpstop leaves and match the halves per the diagram, then hold in place while alternating re-tightening the deadbolt body bolts until snug. The product properly blocks turning the deadbolt lever when deployed, and doesn't get in the way when retracted. Adjust as you see fit, to block the deadbolt lever at the position that suits your security goals. For instance, you can rotate it further toward the door frame and have it block the deadbolt lever sooner. Adjust further toward the middle of the door, to block the deadbolt more or less at a right-angle to it. Blocking the deadbolt lever as close as possible to its locked position seems the smartest approach, so that it cannot be partially rotated and thus provide less kick-in protection.

The deadbolt on my front door is a good-quality Schlage, but it's not a high-security model and I became concerned about bumping, picking, etc. I contacted a locksmith about having a high-security deadbolt installed, but I received a runaround, unfathomably, and I eventually canceled the order. In addition, the locksmith wouldn't give me an estimate of the cost, so I became suspicious that it was really high. I finally canceled the order and looked around on Amazon. I found this deadbolt guard and ordered a couple. It's genius. It is radically simple to install and absolutely prevents the deadbolt from being bumped, picked, whatever, since it prevents the thumb turn from being moved, even with its own key. Long story short, I'm resting easy again.

Live in an apartment so drilling the door to apply a door guard was out of the question. This device was a perfect solution! Quality material, sturdy, steel, and easy to install. It took less than 10 minutes to put together and only need a screw driver. Feel more secure with this device option on the door. Less worried about someone just coming up to pick the patio door lock. Tried opening door with key from outside and it would not budge. So far, very pleased. Probably will get another for the front door. I purchased the gold color. My only complaint is the lack of color choices. Otherwise, highly recommended.

Whoever invented this was a genius. It works fantastic. Once installed, the key is rendered useless because the deadbolt cannot move. Easy installation. I would buy this product again...and I did.

I couldnt get it to work but maybe I didnt understand it.
