Review: X-cellent read for X-Men fans! - I was able to read the original two novels when they were released in the early 90s. Never got to finish the story as I never could find the third book. Stumbled across this during a random search and am glad I did. Takes me back to a lighter time, when I could get absorbed into a novel and read for hours straight. If you are a fan of the XMen, this is an excellent purchase and you will enjoy this story. Would’ve made a great entry in the film series, if they had adapted it.

Great read
I found his Chaos engine trilogy and have been seeking to read more old school comic "books". Great read. I read in airports mostly so this helped me get from place to place with lots of entertainment and intrigue.

Best of the Marvel prose efforts
This novel, or trilogy of novels, avoids most of the pitfalls that have sapped the magic out of most of Marvels prose efforts. It’s an original, not just rehashing well known comics. There is actual character development, consistent with but unique from the comics. It’s plot moves rapidly (aside from a few chapters with characters who are literally adrift) and doesn’t try to stretch out the fight scenes at the expense of the story.

WAY....TOO....LONG
At over 800 pages this story could have been covered nicely in 300 pages. Further, while one expects the impossible in fantasy, this story jacked it up a notch to the silly. Was so sick of hearing about the threat of the Sentinals and they don't appear till 6% left in the book. Magneto waxes poetically and then is able to destroy ALL the robots when they turn against him. The battle on the Kree homeworld was ridiculous with their enemy taken out much too easily. It was tiring going through the lives of all the X-Men when it didn't help the story. The ending was predictable and nothing of the aftermath of the battles.

Do yourself a favor and GET THIS!
Man this trilogy was fantastic. I read this, like the others above, when i was a teenager back in the 90s, and fell in love with it. Ive been begging amazon and marvel to release these digitally for so many years now. Do yourself the favor and read this. It is an epic adventure worthy of your time. And if they ever release mr goldens other xmen novel, Codename: Wolverine, get that as well.

Solid story for fans of comics about X-Men from beginning of 90-ties.

It was fine. Not the best written series ever and a fairly predictable plot - although some interesting twists. Dialogue was a bit stilted. Too long, could have been a duology or even a decent sized novel oncd you cut the sub plot and some of the bumpf from it. The whole Corsair / Starjammer sub plot was pointless and added nothing to the main story of Magneto establishing a "mutant empire". I actually skim read a lot of the sub plot as I found it pretty dull, and was glad when it was over.
