what are the benefits of the curved handles compared to the straight handles on the Ranger max litter picker

I have both. I do not see a difference between them. I prefer the straight handle. They are both excellent. I can pick up minute things.

How good is it at picking very thin and light pieces of litter - eg. paper, thin card, small plastic bags etc? Do the jaws completely close tight?

Being disabled, I have several 'pickers' in various rooms in the house and consider that this one is the best. I have used it to pick up all sorts of objects, from pins, sheets of paper to larger items, such as bottles. The jaws close completely, although this relies on the operator having a reasonably firm grip. I use this 'picker' both in the home and the garden and the rubber 'grippers' are easily cleaned.
