Octopus Porcelain Mug Novelty Gift

This mug is cute and seems to be rather durable. I didn't expect it to be as heavy as it is, but I like it because I don't feel like it will shatter when washed like most novelty mugs do. I bought this as a gift for a friend and I think she is really going to like it.

This thing is awesome! People definitely get surprised. As mentioned in other reviews, it does demand a little extra attention when washing, but it is worth the effort. There is an air pocket beneath the octopus that can only really be cleaned out by swishing soapy water around in the mug. It also captures some water, so the mug needs to be tilted and allowed to drain out before setting it in the drying rack with the rest. On the other hand, the air pocket also makes the octopus capable of FARTING! Low-brow? Yes. Completely hilarious? Oh, man.

Got this for my boyfriend. this mug is rather small, which is good in my case because my boyfriend is a tea drinker. but I don't think this mug would be adequate for most coffee drinkers. also it has this ugly made in china thing on the bottom, but other than that it's a really cute and clever little mug.

Very cute! My friend loved it. I just wish it didn't have those gaps underneath the octopus. Makes it hard for cleaning by hand but otherwise it's perfect

Impossible to clean! I put it in the dishwasher, I hand washed it and I took the sprayer and attacked this thing and I still COULDN'T get under that octopus. Super cute, but it doesn't hold a full cup of coffee and it's impossible to clean.

Gets points for being adorable and unique - I had several people asking me why I had an egg floating in my coffee (when only to top bit was visible), which was great. However, it has several flaws in the design of the mug itself.1) Octopus takes up not-insignificant space in mug2) Octopus combined with thin ceramic walls leads to coffee cooling rapidly3) Octopus is hollow - beverage of choice will end up inside the octopus, meaning cleaning is a....dubiously effective chore.

I read all of the reviews and was overly optimistic about my ability to handle the "hard to clean" aspects of this mug. The mug is good quality and the octopus is cute (and the bubble "farting" is actually adorable). But after two uses, some coffee dried at the bottom on the side that the octopus leans toward and even a toothbrush won't fit in there to get it out. I've had it soaking for two days and tried sponges and tiny rolled up paper towels and just can't get to that one spot to get it clean. If you buy this, I'd recommend rinsing immediately after use or you'll end up with a dirty section that is permanently that way. So sad. This was a huge hit as gift, but now it's kind of gross.
